Anyone done a comparison? I've been buying battlemags but wondered if the pmags were worth the difference in price.

I think they are functionally the same. The advantage of Pmags is the cover taking pressure off the feed lips. The advantage of the Troy besides price is the base isn't bulky like a pmag. They fit mag holders better...

I've used both, as well as other brands and at this stage in the game I really >functionally< haven't seen much difference.

A few personal observations:

To me the Troy Mags feel more delicate. Not quite as robust as the Pmags I have. Again, hasn't led to any reliability issues, but still.

Troy offers some mags with this little rubber nob on the bottom to aid in taking it in and out of magazine pouches. It works, but makes shooting from prone or anywhere you may have the mag supporting the rifle at all a pain.

My personal preference is Pmags>GI>then Troy. But again, it's based on personal aesthetic preference over actual functional differences.

Troy, for obvious reasons. :)

Booger's take is similar to my opinion. The battlemags feel a less less rugged than Pmags. I can't say if they function better or not since mine are all still new in the package. :(

I like that little bumper thing. I switched to troy for indoor rifle matches after breaking a couple Pmags doing mag changes. The bumper is useful. If you don't need it though, they come with a flat insert too.

I have used a few (10 or so) Troy mags, quite a bit. They work great, as good as the PMAGs. They feel brittle but aren't. They are forgiving as far as abuse, but I do have one issue with them. Their anti-tilt followers aren't quite as good as Magpul. I have NEVER had an issue, but it has more play than the PMAGs followers.

I probably would take PMAGs over Troy Battlemags, but only because I have both sitting ready and I have way more triggertime with PMAGs. However that being said, I would absolutely trust my life to a Troy Battlemag, no ands, ifs or buts about it. I think they are a better buy (when on sale than other mags).

For that purpose I could see if being nice. It's just mainly when you have to use the mag as a support that it's a bother, but the same can be said for Pmags magpulls.

Didn't you buy like 750 of those? Lol

GI Vietnam era 20 rd mags, GI 30 round mags, Lancer Hybrid 30 round mags, H&K AR Mags, P-Mags, then Troy Battlemags.

That is how I rank them on desirability for my uses. But, admittedly, some of the criteria is as arbitrary as coloring.

Never had a problem with magpul. They work.

But my preference is for the smoked or clear Lancers.
Don't even own any GI mags, but would like to try some.

Kinda how I feel as well. I have Gen 1, 2, and I think a few new 3 PMags, maybe like 10 Troys, USGI that were "acquired" by my Stepdad when he was still in SF, D&H, C Products, Lancer, and I think that's it... I want to try some Amend2 especially considering you can get 20 of them from Brownells for like $115 shipped. I also really like the looks of Hexmags, but don't have any.

Let me be honest, I don't shoot enough to know what functions better than the others, I just know I have a lot of them and MrGuns&Gears is good with several different brands.

Same difference IMHO. Both work great and I have used both but mainly buy Pmags these days because you can get them in the $7 range for Gen 2s.

I treat AR15 mags like car tires. They are disposable wear items. When they stop working I chuck them and buy new ones.

I personally try not to buy Troy anything these days. #rubyridge

I have seen Troy and Lancer mags fail when using the mag as a rest on a table or prone. Each time it was when the shooter was transitioning targets, putting torsion on the mag bodies. I have not personally experienced this, but it has lead me not to buy any.

I've never used troy mags, but if I found a good deal on them, I'd buy one just to try it. I have a mix of Pmags, and c-products USGI-style steel and aluminum mags. I've never had an issue with any of them.

Oops, I forgot to add input.

Run pmags and Troy's. Have one GI but no other brands or types. Never felt a need to try anything else. Feel like pmags are tougher (just opinion though) and as "hard use" type of stuff. Which I really don't do lol. I use the Troy's as range and general use type stuff.

The pmags are a lot more sturdy feeling than the somewhat flimsy feeling Troy's. I do hate that little nub you can put on the Troy's, catches on everything and ruins mag resting so I don't install em. Next time they go on the $5-6$ sales I will have more of them than pmags I'm sure:). I also use the Troy's as giveaways to new MSR owners as I believe in their reliability.

It's all subjective to me honestly. I keep HD ammo, nice factory and "precision" loads in pmags and plinking reloads in the Troy's to make it easier to grab the right ammo depending on what I'm doing that day:cool:

The reason I was asking is that Western Sports still has both on sale as of Sept. 8th:

Troy 30 rd. for $6.49

Pmag 30 M2 for $8.99

Both "While supplies last".

Buy 5 of both...see what you prefer, then give me the ones you don't like.

What he said. Last batch of Pmags I bought they were like $8 each shipped and now they are even cheaper. Check PSA or Midway. Free frt today at Midway with $100 order.

I use to be high on Brownells mags and they are good mags but those feed lips with bend/crush. A problem with old GI mags. PMAGs dont do that and they dont scratch your brass.

I have only Pmags. I bought them because I know they work. I have a lot of buddy's that have really used them in the field and they never had a problem. They don't cost much. I need to pick a few more 20 rounders for the SPR.... :)

Or just buy the Troy's. They all seem to work ;) ;)
