My wife's place of business has been having a lot of car break-ins lately. She has to keep her carry gun in her car. I see her locked glove compartment as nothing more than a two second inconvenience for a crow bar. From what I've searched, it seems most car safes are secured by a cable. Another minor inconvenience. Are there any quality safes that would be bolted in place? Your thoughts are appreciated.

What kind of vehicle?

Lexus sedan.
Not a lot of options here. I'm speculating here but most smash and grabs are because they see purses or bags inside the vehicle. Maybe have her store it in the trunk out of sight. Ive seen these a few times but it doesnt give any added security other than no one is going to check the headrest.

When I worked in the tobacco fields as a kid the guy I worked for had a smaller fire safe bolted in the trunk of his car. End of week he pulled up open the trunk open the safe and pay everybody.

I wonder if the trunk can be locked where the button won't open it. That might be an option. She could just keep it in a bag and put it in the trunk.

I have no idea what the smash and grabs were. They're not giving details just updating the employees that more car break ins have occurred and keep your valuables out of sight, etc blah blah. My greatest worry is my wife's gun getting into the hands of some gangbanger and being used to kill someone. The monetary loss sucks but that thought really bugs me.

Any cabled lock box can be bolted in...

My truck has a locked tailgate, a locked tonneau cover and a locked Pack Rat tool draw that is bolted in the bed.

Where and how would I bolt it? I was hoping there would be a glove box option made for that purpose.

You’d drill holes, and attach with bolts. 😉🤓

The problem with “hiding” it in the trunk every day is that someone may see her doing so.

This won’t be popular, but if your greatest concern is the loss of the gun, then make sure she doesn’t have to stop for gas and just leave it at home. The odds of using it generally are about zero, the odds of using it while driving to and from work are much lower.

I have a cabled lock box in mine, I figure it'll take a little longer to get access to than a glove box but still easy for me to get to when needed. Other alternative is figure out a really unusual spot to hide it in the car. Would have to get creative

With my Toyota 4 runner, a console safe was an option. Decided to give it a try. Seems pretty secure, key and combination and is bolted through the bottom to the either body or frame (have not crawled underneath to look). I think they make them for most brand vehicles. I am sure with a pry bar and a hammer I could get it out. But it gives me the peace of mind that I did not have with just a pistol in the console. Get back in the vehicle, unlock it, so you can still have easy access

“Has to keep it in her car”

If she does not go through metal detectors and isn’t a chatty Kathy, mine would be on my person.

To hell with businesses not providing security but telling me I cannot defend myself.

I can tell her that, but she won't break their rules. So no matter how much I say it, that's not an option.
