Long story short, my S6 was dropped one too many times and now it don't work so good.

Although I could still see the screen a little last night, it wouldn't react to touch. As of now, the screen is finally completely black.

I'm not worried so much about the lack of communication I'm experiencing today as I am about wanting to retrieve my content.

The Verizon store is closed today, so is there a way I can do this, like maybe with a USB cable from phone to PC?

What's on the phone that isn't already being stored to, or backed up in, the cloud?

If your pics/videos aren't automatically being synced to Dropbox (and if they aren't, set it up on the next phone), you can connect the phone to a PC and browse the contents of the phone memory as well as any SD card and copy it over to PC. You'll need to install Samsung drivers on the PC.

I don't own a Sammy phone but I'll bet you can connect it to your pc and suck the data out of it.

Depending on his settings he might not be able. When you plug any USB cable into mine it defaults to charging only, I have to activate a data connection via a prompt on the screen. It's a security feature to stop those charging stations in airports etc hoovering all your data.

    This.
You cannot access the storage without first unlocking the phone. It is a security feature.

The S6 was also the only one they didn't allow using a micro SD card to expand storage.

Sorry mate. I am still using my S5 and even that is really fussy what it will let you store on a card.

I had the S4, how have the S7. All my music and photos on the card.
A few apps don't give me an option.
Best bet it is keep the cloud storage updated.
At least the system remembers what apps I had installed and loads it all in the new phone.

Well, this blows. I assume unlocking the phone is next to impossible without replacing the screen.

I connected it to a PC. The drivers installed, the pc recognized the device, but no files were seen.

Yeah, without the on screen unlock it just charges and shows the device. You have to activate the file transfer mode.

Go ahead and go by a Verizon store. I'm sure that you are not the first one with this problem. I'd bet they would be able to help you retrieve your stuff.

If it had a lock on it you are s o l. Unless you replace the screen. Been there done that. Lost EVERYTHING.

You could always just send a FOIA request to NSA.

You could use ADB to mount it and retrieve stuff.

    No, I can't.

    :p

Seriously, I'm not tech savvy, but I make a lot of assumptions about the possibilities. I mean, if they can put a man on the moon, right?
