Just got back from spending almost 10 hrs. in the ED. I have had several stones in the past, haven't had one in years. This one presented totally different than any other. After several tests, scans, bloodwork. I am the proud owner of a rather large stone. I will be chewing meds until I can get into the urologist sometime tomorrow to see when I can get this thing blasted. Man these things suck!!!!

My 23 year old daughter just experienced her first.

I don't think I have ever felt so helpless, only being able to watch her squirm in pain until the PA decided she suffered enough and ordered meds.

Yeah...
It’s what I imagine a GSW to the stomach feels like...

My first, I went into shock and vegel shutdown...
Almost died...

Glad to hear your doing better..

Last one I had I went to the ER and when seen I stuck out my hand and said "morphine, now."

They said "how do you know?"

I had one 60 days before.

If you have never had one, God help you when you do.

Hang in there, hope you get it blasted asap.

I have never had one....and after reading this, I hope I never do.
Good luck, OP

I had an 8mm kidney stone and an 8mm bladder stone. Zero pain with neither one.

To truly know what excruciating pain is, I recommend everyone try one. Then you will know what to compare other injuries to.

Been there done that
Had a 6mm that I almost passed. That's right almost. Went to the ED and told them I had a stone and I could see it. It made it to the end of the tunnel and got stuck. You shoulda seen the ED staff when I told them I could see it. Looked at me like I was crazy till I showed them.

this and shingles are what i pray i don't get.
i just completed the new shingles shot regimen.
is there a vaccination for KS?

They didn't say how big it was, only that is right on the border of being unpassable, possible but not likely. I have had them blasted 3 times before, it has just been awhile.

Less iced tea. My wife had one and the doctor asked if she was a regular tea drinker. Apparently the oxalates in tea and other foods help cause them.

Put the end of the discharge tube into a vise and torque the vise jaws together shut and you will just begin to know what this pain feels like.

You must have a narrow urethra, like Hank Hill

But sometimes, a kidney stone can save your life.
The guy I sold my Buell to back in 2012 told about his experience.
He was in for a ultrasound due to kidney stone.
The tech was talking him though it then suddenly went silent and called in a doctor for an immediate consult.
The ultrasound showed advanced colon cancer. He was in surgery within a few days. He was quite lucky. They were able to get it just in time. Chemo and radiation took care of the rest apparently. I have no idea if he is still cancer free. But just goes to show you, kidney stones are not always a bad thing. :D:eek:;)

Okay, so none of you guys ever passed a 8 lb bowling ball.

Don't get me wrong, I am empathizing with you. The difference is, in childbirth at the end of the excruciating pain, there is joy and not a useless rock.

I feel for your brother, I've had 2 cases and they are no fun all. Hope you get rid of them soon with a quick recovery.

Good luck......im fortunate never to have one.......but i know several that have. Hang in there.

Used to work with a maintenance guy that had them frequently. He had one like that that he said he could feel it rubbing his underwear so he got a pair of tweezers out of his toolbox and went to the bathroom. Came back a little later with a gnarly, jagged looking triangular stone.

You have my sympathy. Stones Suck!
Doc said mine measured 9mm ... and I knew that was incompatible with the barrel!

Saw my urologist this afternoon, the one causing me trouble is a 5mm. It it going to be blasted Friday. Then he dropped the bomb to tell me I have 3-4 on my left side all are 8-9 mm each. They can't be busted up at the same time. I will have a stent put in then each one will be blasted. I am looking at a minimum of 3-4 times with stents starting after the first of the year.

It's my friggin rock. [emoji41]

I have both in a plastic tube in my file cabinet.

I saved a couple or three...
Named one "!"
Another Bartholomew...

Yeah, I know it's wrong, but I "birthed" them.
"!" is capsule shaped, 8mm long x 7mm wide and 6mm thick.
Some might recall seeing a picture of it next to a 22lr cartridge.

The first one I passed had me rolling in the floor like a shot dog. No matter what I did I could not get in a position that I was not in pain. Pain radiating from back to front all the way to the tip. I was put on IV and given shots of morphine. Only then did I get easy with the pain. This started at about midnight and I was released later that morning. I used the strainer they sent home and I caught the damn thing.

i feel for you bud. had one when I was 25, on the fourth of july. they said it was likely the size of a grain of sand. BS.....it felt like a piece of barbed wire before the morphine. and the size stones you guys have survived.. would have felt like giving birth to a train....

I forgot to mention, when I started feeling bad I drove myself 25 minutes to my doctor's office. They were nice enough to call an ambulance for the ride to the ER.

last one I had was 2.5mm x 4.5mm. Looked like a damned asteroid. F'n spikes and jagged ridges. Woke me up from a dead sleep at 3am. Felt like I had to pee constantly. Only thing that helped was walking and moving until it moved. Went to the plant and walked around the plant for 5 hours until Dr office opened. No reason to go to ER as they will make you SIT. That wasn't happening. 8am doors opened, tell receptionist, I have a stone and want a shot for pain. Took me back, fortunately I knew the nurse, told symptoms, don't know what they gave me, but remember her telling me we will call your wife to come get you. Good stuff I have to say. Xrays and yep there it was. Gave me a script for pain meds and told me to drink fluids and try to pass. Once that SOB got out of kidney was better but damn felt funny when I finally passed that damn thing. Don't wish that on anyone. Felt like someone had grabbed my sack and was trying to pull it to my feet.

Just thought I would put this one out there for your viewing pleasure. This was my 6th. May 2014 at work. Finally got tired of messing with it, drank a bunch of water, held it till I couldn't stand it anymore, grabbed ahold of the urinal and blew it out. Landed in the floor behind me. The folks working near the head wondered who was in the bathroom calling for their momma. Took over a month to pass it, relatively smooth. My urologist said he had never seen anyone pass one that large and live to tell about it. Took pics and sent it to his doc buddies.

Use it to brag a little bit.........if i can pass this huge stone......it came from a huge unit.

You have my greatest sympathy............ When it starts giving you hell, just remember you will get through it and better days will be in the future.

When it's over, you will know you are one tough SOB.

My first and so far the worst was in 1985. Went to my doc and he gave me a shot of Demerol, nurse drove me to a urologist and gave me another shot of dem, His nurse took me to the hospital and they gave me another shot of dem. and got me a room. Three shots of Demerol didn't touch it. Had IVP the next day and they went and got it. The catheter was a bitch. My nurse said that I now know what it feels like to have a baby. She had three kids and one stone and said she would rather have all three kids at one time than another stone.

I usually get them 3-5 years apart so its about time for another one. My daughter spits them out like a candy machine.

The lithotripsy went fine, I am a little sore. Still trying to get all this medicine out of my system. I ate Percocet like tic-tacs for 2-3 days. I don't know how people function on that stuff. It was so good to sleep last night. I go back in a couple of weeks to see about how these large stones, (2) 8 mm and a 9mm!!!!! Not looking forward to those racsals coming out. I know I can't pass something like that. He said one of them was the size of a thumb nail.

Dilaudid (Hydromorphone Hydrochloride)
received this injection on my second one..........weeeee...
Not that's some good stuff! I got it once, when I had the lumbar puncture headache...worst pain I've had in all my life, but that stuff made it fade to almost nothing! If you've never had that particular headache, may you never experience it!
