Given that my .300 BLK firearms spend a good time in the woods in pursuit of whitetails, and given that making the mistake of inserting a .300BLK supersonic round in a 5.56 chamber is a very bad thing..... I paint my .300 BLK guns and mags.

Simple rule in this house. If the mag is black it goes in a black rifle. If the mag is camo, it goes in a camo rifle.

Or pistol in this case......

Just finished it up.

I may go back later and paint the sights and the base for the RMR (but not the RMR itself...)

Awesome!!
Did you start out with a base color and then use a stencil? That came out great.

Sort of a stencil.....

I used old camo netting that came off a tree stand LOL.

Paint is the Rustoleum Camo paint that's available at walmart, lowes, etc.

Started with the OD Green. 2x base coats and then using the stencil just sweeping strokes with the light, medium, and dark browns.

And thank you!

Looks very good. I've been thinking I'd do one of my AR pistols but I'm not sure how to go about degreasing the gun, getting into all the nooks and crannies. What did you use to prep before the paint?

Do y'all tape anything? Or just degrease and have at it?

I take the bolt out and close the dust cover. I stuff paper towels in the magwell. I tape the muzzle devices to keep them black (preference thing).

That's pretty much it.

I wore nitrile gloves and wiped it down with ISO alcohol on a cotton ball.

I put a wrapping paper cardboard tube over the barrel, taped over the trigger, optic glass and the details on the scope like parallax, magnification numbers, etc. I also taped the rubber stock “pad” because I knew it would rub off that really quickly. I stuffed paper towels in the mag well. I painted it with the Charging handle in place but took the BCG out and stuffed the chamber and upper with paper towels as well.

I think this was like my sixth? rifle I’ve painted

Next one is a home made multicam decal rifle

Here are my other two. I used grass, cedar, and oak leaves for stencils on these.

I taped over the target turrets on one scope bit the other had covers. Flip up lens covers on both so I just painted with them installed and flipped down.

I take the handguard off and paint barrel and upper assembly/lower together. I paint the handguard separately and then slide it back on. That way the barrel and handguard both get painted. Remove any optic you don't want painted, tape up any that you do and roll with it.

I'm feeling inspired to paint something now. Great looking rifles!!
