I know I have discussed this with a few folks but here is a UNCC/pbs video of a NC chef that went to WV to find out what they really are and how they are made. The pepperoni roll part starts about 8:30 seconds and the festival is in the town I went to college.

I love Vivian Howard's shows. "Somewhere South" is her new series but I don't think it is but 6 shows long. There was one on last night about dumplin's and the difference that have in the South. Her restaurant is about 3 hrs. from me in Kinston but I have driven down 3 times. I've never had the pepperoni roll but they sound great.

They're easy to make. Go get frozen rolls, let them proof, add pepperoni, proof again, bake. If you're feeling frisky add mozz with the pepperoni.

I was really disappointed in The Chef and the Farmer. The Boiler Room she opened across the street however is excellent and well worth it...

Been to both with no regrets. Loved that oysterberger in the broiler room and the poutine. Chef and Farmer is a little more upscale to me but fine because I loved trying some of her takes on less than traditional dishes.
