I have just acquired a 22lr pistol with an integrated picatinny rail and no options for mounting plates.

What would be a good dot for this thing that is picatinny compatible?

you will probably be asked about the expected purpose for this pistol, the types of targets and range, how often you expect to use the firearm this way, your related experiences, perhaps a comment about yourself and your vision, and of course, budget

I have six such optics and can report a wide variety of experiences. On Wednesday I plan to purchase another one.

Mostly for shooting steel poppers at ranges out to 25 yards, just for fun, maybe a competition or two. Heavy usage.
Price is a non issue.

Sounds like you want a smaller dot because of the possibility for range and competition, or maybe one that has selectable reticles.
And then you need decent battery life.

There are tube-type and open-style optics that may be of interest. I'd say that's the largest differentiation you want to sort out.

Some of these optics use green dots (the human eye sees green better) and others are red (less $).

If the one you end up liking the best doesn't come with the Pic rail mount in the box, you can easily add that.

The cheapest red dot I have cost around $45, and the most expensive was about $400.

Interestingly, price is not a direct indication of the usability of the optic. But it does affect some parameters.

My wife and I compete in rimfire challenge and for the rifles we use C-More Slideride red dots, 8 MOA.

On her pistols we use Holosun 507, mine have Burris FastFire 4 and Vortex Venom (6 MOA).

My bullseye pistol has a Sightron S30-5 tube style optic.

Have a look at some Holosun 407 and 507 series. Pretty cool features and decent bang for the buck.

I’ve got a vortex venom and Burris FF3 on two different 22 pistols.

For the money they are great. I choose more durable options for larger calibers but these come with pic mounts and work quite well IMO.

I just picked up a neat lil picatinny mount with the Dr/FF/Venom footprint for the Rossi 45C.
Will be gettin one for the 22/45 Lite as well. Wanted one w/o the big goofy thumb screw.

For open I use a few FF3 on 22s. Bit of a comet shape due to my eyes, but usable.

Wasn’t aware of the FF4.

I ended up finding a Burris First Strike II on clearance for $75 and couldn't pass it up at that price.
Already mounted and zeroed. It's my first pistol optic so I don't have a lot to compare it to, but it works fine so far and is daylight bright.
