Traded myself into a bit of a project today, a Colt Lightweight Commander on a RMT (Ranger Machine and Tool) alloy lower. Very much a garage project with all sorts of buffoonery added to it: requisite ill fitted Wilson Combat parts, a spur hammer on a Commander safety, mag catch screw chewed all to living hell, and my two favorite parts - a Wilson checkered front strap cover glued on (poorly) and the ugliest damn slide release lever I've ever seen. Seriously, this thing makes a Khyber Pass copy look like an STI manufactured part.

Pulled it all apart and filed some of the flash/sprue off of the frame and reblacked it, flattened up the mag catch screw, cleaned up the dried super glue and decades old dried manufacturer grease, changed out the slide release, no short trigger, so that will have to wait.

Grip safety rubs like hell on the composite mainspring housing. Stoned some of that down and still not perfect, but much better.

Get it all back together and function check - slide release doesn't even come close to holding the slide back...

Not sure what\t I'm going to do with this thing. Would really love to have the original Colt frame, but I don't see that happening, thinking about getting a Caspian Officer's frame and making a CCO, but I'll have to get that fitted and it'll turn into some experiment in throwing good money after bad...

I've got a couple boxes of miscellaneous 1911 parts. Bring that sucker over here and we could see if we could find some small parts that fit/work better. Finish may not match, but function over form, yes?

Sounds like a date!

You'll be in Charlotte this weekend, right?
