I resisted them until a friend let me shoot a gun with an optic. Now I own 8 pistol optics. At the same time, I think there's value to practicing with irons (in case your optic dies).

That seems like it could be addressed through practicing your draw. I'd rather have an optic and risk a snag that I can train myself out of than not have the optic.

I’m not understanding your question? Are you asking if you should have back up iron sights on your dot equipped carry gun? If so, then I would say yes.
