Just picked up a police trade-in from AIM Surplus.
Behold a Gen 3 Smith & Wesson 6906 9mm.

After an extensive cleaning - it was filthy - you can see plenty of wear. Looks like it was used as a club and possibly a hammer. However, the barrel looked factory pristine and the magazine was in excellent condition. Even the follower looked new! Cosmetic issues aside, it is like a tank and should have lots of life left.

Owned several 6906s and a 6904 in the past. Excellent handguns that shared the same manual of arms with the M9 I was issued at the time. Same size and weight of a G19 or Colt Lightweight Officers.

@SmokeyJoe Congrats on grabbing that pistol.

If you’re extra lucky, I may have a way for you to replace that beaten grip. If you’re not aware, nearly 30 years ago, Smith issued a recall for the grips on many 3G models, including yours. IF your grip doesn’t have that small dimple on the grip, Smith should replace it FOC. Last time I did this, I simply emailed them the S/N of the gun along with photos of the frame (showing the S/N) and the bottom of the grip showing lack of the dimple. A week or so later, a shiny new grip arrived.

Do you feel lucky? ;)

Thanks, @Jeppo ! It does, in fact, have the dimple on these lovingly abused grips.

This gun is enigmatic. The internals looked entirely unused. Had some crud in there that appeared to simply be dirt and old oil... no real carbon to speak of... the outside looks as though the guy would come home everyday and just pitch the thing across the floor. Sometimes that floor may have been concrete. :confused:
Looking forward to shooting it, but it feels as though it will be like breaking in a new one. I would doubt the thing has seen fifty rounds! The barrel is so shiny with zero external wear marks, it may not have been shot at all after the factory test. Bizarre.

@SmokeyJoe
Can you post a photo from above, with the hammer down, and straight down looking at the top of the beaver tail?

Not only virtually unshot but the slide was probably never take off the frame. Anyone with that little respect for the gun would have likely left idiot marks on the back of the slide (from the levers). Perhaps the LEO couldn’t afford an actual baton? :eek:

The fallacy of gun control. Here is a Khyber Pass/Pakistani Beretta 92 copy with working suppressor. We put two mags out of in yesterday, mostly suppressed. Rest of the guns are all Khyber Pass guns too. Khyber Pass guns are made with hand tools, hand spun lathes on the dirt floor of a adobe hut by a skilled craftsman.

Right, lads - we're all familiar with the polymer pocket 380s (and I have some of them) but I thought you might be interested in some old-school 380s that are actually fun to shoot. Here are my favorites.

Beretta 85BB (8-round magazine, single stack) DA/SA

Browning BDA (13-round magazine, double stack), DA/SA, manufactured for Browning by Beretta

Colt Mustang Pocketlite (6 rounds), single action

Browning 1911-380 (8 rounds), single action

As I have worked my way through a range of pistols, I've found the ones I shoot the best - and enjoy the most - are the ones that fit my hand and put my stubby index finger squarely on the trigger. Not counting revolvers, these 380s are some of them; in 9mm the P365 and Springer EMP4 are faves. I'm not suggesting 380 is a substitute for a larger caliber, but it could be pressed into service for "social" situations if necessary, and I wouldn't feel unarmed. And it's fun to shoot; rings steel and makes the same size hole in paper. But mostly, these guns fit my hand and feel good shooting.
