This is a very early Kimber, it is slick as can be and as good a 1911 as I ever owned............ It now sports a set of very thin Crimson Trace grips, and has a home on a table next to my TV Watching Chair.

And this little Kimber....... Well, honest, I forget. I might have given this to my Son Matthew, or might not have? Anyway if not, its in there somewhere, sporting around a set of Mammoth Ivory Grips...........

Two or three years ago I went through another phase. First, it was Earth Tone guns, and second I wanted a couple of "Rail" guns, with the bottom rail on the frame. I had been working with the Crimson Trace laser on all the AR guns, and very impressed with its performance. I had yet to discover the thinner grips that Crimson Trace has, plus I just wanted to give these a go anyway. I got the hots of course for the Earth Tone Kimber, I forget what they call it. So I got one in, and put the Crimson Trace on it. Today it is the gun that sits next to my bed, and the first line of defense should I not be able to get to the 10.5 inch 300 BLK that also sits next to my bed. Now I can't figure out why I wouldn't be able to get the 300 BLK, because my hand lands on it first the few times that I have been on alert status. But anyway, its there.......It has been tested, fired, and put thru a few hoops to make sure all is good..........It is also a pretty slick gun.........

Yes, I know, I have a rep, if one is good, two is REAL GOOD….. But this time, I got to looking at a second gun, its home next to my TV Chair on a table. But I kinda liked the looks of one of the S&W 1911s. I had never had a S&W 1911, heard good things, nothing negative, so I decided to give it a go. Its a good gun, absolutely no issues, no malfunctions, works every time, but just not quite as “slick” as the Kimber gun. I ended up trading this gun to my Son Mark David, and he ended up using it in some sort of trade for a watch as I recall............ So it is gone, my TV Chair gun is the older Kimber, with thin Crimson Trace grips now, the one you see in the above post.
This gun was ok, like I said, no real issues, but just not quite as slick and smooth as the Kimber guns.

During my "Earth Tone Phase" I also had to have this little Sig 9mm. What a great little carry around gun, works like a 1911, so I am used to it. It is a bit rough, horrible trigger, but feed and function has been 100% to date, even with some tough bullets that I feed through it. Easy to shoot, easy to carry.

Yep....got them in yesterday....planned ahead
I was playing with mine this afternoon and noticed the magazine wouldn’t drop and could feel rubbing on insertion. I removed the grips (felt like the screws had been installed with an impact wrench) and that solved the problem. Put them back on, seated them carefully and tightened the screws “normally” and it seems fine now.

Screws were tight but not overly tight but mag would drop normally. I did notice that the screws that came with the new grips didn't seem to be the right size so I just used the old screws. Need to clean mine tomorrow....was a lot of oil ...especially on the barrel. The slide seemed a little harder to rack compared to my other pistols but sure will loosen up some.

Here is a old 1911 I have had for years, can't recall exactly where I picked it up, Billy may remember.

DSC03538.jpg

Billy had mentioned this gun on another thread. Swenson gun, but parts have been changed out so many times now, that about the only thing left by Swenson is the sights. I have had this gun for around 35 years. Billy and I bought it one night from a friend of his in Florence SC. I didn't have two nickels to rub together at the time, and for the life of me I can't remember how I got my hands on $500 to pay for it. Probably every dime I had at the time. And it worried me to death to spend that kind of money on a gun too. I got my 2 cents out of it however, last time I even thought about keeping up with the number of rounds it hit 25'000 rds fired. Hell, it was the only Semi Auto gun I had. It was the first 45 ACP I ever owned. Our friend Thelbert Almond had a big walnut tree fall down in his yard. He made that set of Walnut grips that are on it now. The gun has long been retired many years now, but it will forever be a favorite of mine and carries along with it many many memories of years gone by......

Nice. Great memories. Funny how we can relate life and our "situations" to them. Very cool, indeed.

You borrowed it from ME! Paid me back Pronto! I probably needed it to pay a bill in those days. It was $600.
Hell, it was the only Semi Auto gun I had.
Wrong again..I had traded you a two toned BHP for a 586 you had. First auto you ever had.
It was the first 45 ACP I ever owned
Finally got something right.
, Billy may remember.
That old war horse came from our Nags Head connection. The great Ron Strachan.

Damn I love seeing old guns!!!!!!!!

I thought the BHP was after the Swenson Gun??? Well, maybe not, That was a long time ago....

Well, I said I couldn't remember where I got the money from! Good thing you were along! HEH.............

I remember trading that 586 for the BHP.... And guess what, still have that gun, and later I added another one just like it.... A pair of them......

Those things have been around the block a time or two, and back...... Both T Series Brownings...........

I looked around this morning on various sites for BHP grips, don't see anything that really gets me going on that yet..........Wes made mention he might make some grips off the drippings of a Myrtle Stock we are doing for a WinM70 right now... ???? Hmmmmm????

I really need to find some better grips for those guns.........Just never looked for any......
I don't know, Mike, those grips are period correct for those guns. Pachmayr grips was what everyone was using at the time. Nobody wanted those old wooden grips.

Geezer... right. I don't think I ever had anything else on them? I have not had them out in years. I did have one out when testing loads with the 90 Raptors to make sure they feed/function, but other than that they have been put away......I shot many a round through both those guns.........

Now Billy has me getting ready to do some 147 gr Hi Velocity loads, guess I will pull one of them out to help test them...........HEH.........No, he can't do just a few to test, he orders 500 at a time......

500 should be a good sample batch. He likes to call them Hell Loads. Those loads should be a good test for the SCCY, too.

Well, there is a black hole at Battery Oaks where things seem to go.

Geezer......are you coming over to visit soon? Billy mentioned a few of you are up for a visit on the 6th I believe.

Here is a Series 70 Satin Nickel I picked up years ago, along the way, and forget this and that about it......The only gun I have that I never changed the mainspring housing for some reason? Lazy I reckon....

Mammoth Ivory of course.......

I'm planning on it.

Forget all the snazzy cork-sniffer grips and try some of these. They actually work well.:

I kinda like the looks of those NKD........ Are they thick or thin? I Like THIN.......

I believe they are about the thinnest and grippiest available. At least they are for CZ and Tanfoglios. I guess if it's a nice collector or safe gun, the pretty ones are best. But if you intend to use it in varying conditions, these grips will perform very very well, imo. Very tough and lightweight as well.

Unfortunately, I am one of those poor bastards that doesn't own a Browning HP, so have not used them on that gun.
My dad raised me better, and at some point I hope to rectify my situation.

I am going to look around at some things for the BHPs....... Have not decided yet or laid hands on anything...... Thanks NKD for the link, I have it and will look more.......I see on some of the reviews they talk about how
slim they are........

Some time ago, I took the notion I wanted one of those little Browning 1911 22s. so I picked one up......

.

Liked it pretty good to. Work like a champ, but a friend of mine at the time wanted it worse than I did, and traded me a Big heavy Winchester M70 in 223.......

DSC04261.jpg

I still wanted one of the little Brownings, but an upgrade maybe, two tone one. So I got this one now, and love it..........

DSC04423.jpg

I am keeping this one.............
