Piston Upper

I’ve got a lower receiver sitting around that needs an upper. I thought I’d get a piston one just for something different. I think I’ve narrow it down to these three and would like some opinions

Wolf T91 (also considering the 14.5” barrel version but think that might be a waste) This is the cheapest of the three.

Brownells BRN-180 - I had a 180b for a little bit and enjoyed it. This might be a fun replicant without the polymer drawbacks of the Armalite version.

PWS MK116 PRO UPPER - Not super familiar with the brand but the weight is not bad for a piston upper.

I like my simple m&p with a piston upper, think it’s model psx. I think they discontinued them after pricing them stupid.
 
There is the Sig 516 as well, It was designed by some HK people that jumped ship to SIG.

They seem to pop up in waves of the different variants. The cheapest I've seen was last year you could get the upper direct from SIG for $399.

Pros: CHF CL barrel
Cons: HEAVY with a proprietary hand guard

Yeah, I got an email from aim yesterday. They have the 14.5 barrel version for $550. I thought about it and decided to pass due the cons you mentioned.
 
Looks like they are coming out with a lower to look like original with no place for a buffer tube and Picatinny rail instead.

I’ll probably get one and either do their 10.5” or 18” upper paired to this lower.

Since I’ll be getting a new lower do I get the sub $500 T91 or nicer PWS to go atop the lower I already have?
 
I've got 2 PWS guns and I absolutely love them. @amnesia just got the Diablo upper. Not sure if he's shot it yet.
 
I have a few HK’s and love them! I have owned the Sig 516 and my only fault was the handguard. I owned a Rattler, MCX Virtus, and Titan Defense, all were awesome. The PWS my friends have are accurate, reliable and all round tough rifles. I love external pistol guns. That being said they aren’t for everyone. They usually command a higher price, are heavier, some are harder to reliably suppress. That being said, mine have proven to me to be some of the most reliable systems I have shot.
 
The Wolf upper has good press all around.
It's on the short list of possible uppers for the next carbine build
 
I've got the Spikes (re-branded Adams Arms) on my go to rifle and really like it. I didn't set out to build a piston gun but I was in the middle of building it and Sandy Hook happened and I was short a BCG and couldn't find a decent one anywhere that wasn't trying to rape me. Found a guy selling the kit on arfcom for cheaper than most were asking for just a BCG.
