Anyone use Powerbelt Platinum 270 grain?
I bought a bunch on clearance very cheap. I've only used xtp's and sst's with sabots. Might give these a try unless they just preform horrible. I had an sst that I think broke apart on a 90 yard shot hitting shoulder or rib last year. One of the few deer I've ever lost. Maybe 120 grains was pushing it too much on impact. Have had excellent results with 240 grain xtp's over 100 grains of 777 on both deer and smaller pigs.

CVA optima 2 26" barrel. Loose 777
I've experimented and 110 -120 grains groups the best 1-2 moa at 100. 130 it starts to open to about 3-4 moa. 90-100 was 2 moa.

So powerbelt actually recommends the platinums for magnum charges. I'm hoping these hold together we'll. 110-120 groups the best, just worried about the bullet breaking apart hitting bone at higher velocity. Anyone hunting with these with 110-120 grains of 777? Performance?

I have used the "regular" power belts in my .45 Knight.

They damage way too much meat, it's like they explode when they hit a deer.

I hate power belts. I've had problems with them not passing through, which means no blood trail. Sabots just don't seem to do that to me.

They were very accurate for me but didn't perform well on deer. The 240xtp in a green sabot are the ticket.

I found some Hornaday Mono Flex 250 grain in what was left at Gander Mountain yesterday, everything 70-90% off.

Read good reviews. Looks similar to the Barnes TMZ. All copper alloy, should expand but not explode. After using successfully the 240 grain xtp of a pig and a few deer I tried the TC version of the sst, I'm pretty sure it broke apart being drove too fast. Got to find the right sabot combo for a CVA optima v2 with these monoflex. These came with a gimmicky looking sabot with a pellet holder. I'm using loose 777, that I buy on clearance at Walmart at the end of deer season;)

Gander had a few of these and a bunch of 338 grain platinum Power Belts left. Lots of 300 wsm, 300 win mag, and 35 Whelen. Not much of anything else.

I had excellent results with xtps inside 100 yards. I was looking to be able to confidently stretch it just a little more, as I have fields to hunt over. Thus why I tried a TC shockwave last year, and apparently pushed it to hard for the inside 100 yard shot that presented itself. Had to break apart on bone. I went looking for a deal on the Barnes tmz, found those hornaday monoflex. I'll try them this year and report back. Way too many horror stories on the Power Belts breaking apart.

How far are you wanting to shoot? My CVA optima shot about 2" at 150yds with blackthorn 209 and a green crush sabot with a 240 gr XTP. Thats with a cheap 3-9x40 scope on it. I've heard good things about the Barnes MZ bullets but never used them. I tried the shockwaves a few years ago and didn't care for them and as I said earlier The powerbelts didn't work good either.

I'm more worried about the terminal ballistics of the round than the trajectory. How it performs on game past 100 yards to a max of 200.

Most shots I take are around 75 to 125 in this field, but I've passed on nice deer at 200. Would be nice to have confidence in the bullets terminal ballistics past 125 yards. I'd like to max out at 200 with black powder, and it's possible with the right bullet. Love the XTP 240 grain as a zero to 100, I took one at 120 with it, but I believe 150-200 could be pushing this handgun rounds performance on game. I'm not into taking the chance with a shot unless I have the confidence in the performance. Learned a tough lesson last year. Hopefully this copper alloy with advertised high weight retention should expand and give great penetration.

Soon as I find out the ballistic coefficient I'll know exactly how far I can push this bullet by working up a load. It's advertised to expand at 1120 Fps and above. I'll probably push just over 2000 fps muzzle velocity.
