A friend has gifted items to me over this year. The plow point and tobacco stick scales are from his family farm. I’m stopping by this afternoon to give him the knife made from the items.

I thought so too and I’m glad you said that. My friend just sold the old family farm and stopped by and when I saw the tobacco sticks I thought - this will make a cool memento from his farm.
I've seen them made from all sorts of different wood. They was made from whatever trees was on the farm that had to be cut down most times. In the real old settler days the limbs and such left from the trees that built the cabin was used for stakes and tool handles and whatever else was needed.

That handle looks like heart pine.
Being a farmer and from generations of tobacco farmers. I never thought about making a handle from tobacco sticks. Great idea they are hard as concrete and will last forever. White oak is what we used as did most people. Have knives made from saw blades. They never dull.
