According to officials, the officer was pursuing a vehicle headed down to the South Bay when the car began to run low on battery power after someone forgot to plug the vehicle into a charger.
The police spokeswoman says Tessa’s battery was at least half-full at the beginning of the shift, which is in line with general guidelines.

Case and point why half full isn’t good enough.

These things BURN through battery when you get on them. The stated range assumes my grandma is driving.

ETA: they don’t say how far the Tesla did actually chase the suspect. 20mi or 100mi?

Well stated sir !

This is exactly why I think full electric trucks will be only a Starbucks and Home Depot trip toy. If you tow with them you will have a problem.

I'm not fully against EV's ,but they have their limitations.

Agreed.

Speaking of towing with an electric car...

Someone is trying to make a point that doesn't exist. Police chases have cars drop out all the time for any number of reasons. There is never just one runner and one pursuer, Everybody close gets in on them.

It's not a Tesla fail, the officer didnt fully charge vehicle, that's on them.

I don't trust that receiver hitch nor that large of a trailer behind that size of vehicle, scary....... Very high battery usage like I thought.

I like the TFL truck test channel. I missed this one because I don't subscribe to the TFLcar channel, Thanks !

Yup. A coworker test drove an electric motorcycle. The gauge said a range of 25 miles. He drove about 4 miles and when he was done it said it had a range of 2 miles left.

They remember to charge their phones, radios, flashlights, probably body cams too but not the car?

Helium fusion reactor, the size of a beer can, powers her for eight months.

"There's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark out, and we're wearing sunglasses."

My question isn’t about battery but why is a police department driving a car that costs twice that of its gas powered counter part?

They actually submitted a budget that says they save 20k a year by having the Tesla. Also, the model 3s are not that expensive. The dodge charger pursuit starts at 32k without the hemi

Hahaha hate to laugh but it is funny...

Kinda like a episode of a cop show when Leo was chasin some redneck/hillbilly in a pickup for shop lifting, an Oldboy dumps on 4wd and hits a dirt road and the cop stops and said

NOPE I AINT GOING UPAIR,

backed up and went on his way

Thankfully gasoline engines are immune to lower mpg when romped on lol
