Ok I know it's not really fair since all reasons have some merit.
But what is your main reason that you carry? Yes you have to choose just one.
Constitution says so and because I can are too generic. They apply to everyone and don't qualify for the poll.
Have you ever really thought about it?
I'm also aware that today might be one reason and tomorrow another. But generally, when you put your gun on in the morning in everyday life, what is your main concern for doing so?

Only one choice, but you can change it after some thought if you want. It will only allow 10 choices so if you have a good 'other' put it out there as I'm sure I didn't think of everything.
Your vote cannot be seen by others and can be anonymous.

I voted “other”. The reason I carry a firearm is because I think it would be awkward to carry a cop around. Where in the world would you find a holster for that? I voted for that choice because I carry for multiple reasons listed on the options. The primary reason I carry is the safety of my family in any situation.

Other, I worry about my family more than others, and I've been robbed at gunpoint before. Also, because I can is an answer also.

I find myself carrying more and more. It's not safe out there and every day I find another reason to carry.

Should have added "to tip the odds in my favor" as an option.

Frankly I think your options are way too specific. Carrying is about a mindset and self-reliance. You need to be mentally prepared for all of those situations and a firearm may be one tool to ensure your safety.

I wasn't sure how to answer this at first because there are multiple reasons, but for now
I'm thinking police protection. As in protection against the police. :(

I did consider making that one of the choices. But it's less likely than the others I figure.
It was hard to narrow it down to 10. I'm with ya'll...lots of reasons and none really seem priority over the others. So it's more an exercise in thought I suppose.

I'm not married, no kids. I live in a quiet area. Nearest family is 500 miles away.
So I voted for myself disgruntled employee. With the what-about-me attitude that is so pervasive now these people can pop up at a moments notice while you sit in the KFC eatin' chicken. Crazy people are another that I may come across in my environment but you can usually see them coming. Disgruntled employee all-of-a-sudden is just there, and it happens all the damn time everywhere.

Just decided that the government, at all levels, no longer (if ever) has the ability to provide me and my family the safety and security that I feel necessary in the world as it exists today. As such, I have taken on the responsibility for my own protection and that of my family.

Because it's my right, duty and obligation to protect myself and those who are entrusted to my care.
Same reason I wear my seatbelt, have a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and car / life insurance.

Been carrying since I became an adult a long time ago. Grow up around the country and world then went off on my own and enlisted. Bad people everywhere that want to do harm to others for multiple reasons.

"Have gun, will travel"

With the crazy world we live in today I carry to protect my family.

I voted "Other" as an "All of the above". There is, and can not be one reason I carry. That is the reason I carry. To be ready for anything bad.

Protect Family/Others from all the other badness you listed. Who knows what can happen in this crazy ass world anymore. Those people in the Texas or Charleston church never thought they would need a firearm… If assholes will prey on church goers….anyone is fair game.

You seen Die Hard? Yeah, THAT'S the reason to carry. When Hans shows up at the mall I'll save the day.

.
. or just to protect my family from some crazy/harmful person

Should have the option to choose "all that apply". I put down animal attack since it is not uncommon for me to have to shoot stray dogs, an occasional rabid coon, and copperheads on our daily walk to the mailbox. It's not unusual to have yotes hollering within a hundred yards of us either. We have several dogs (including a lap dog) and I'm not going to stand by and let some stray dog/coon/yote tangle with them. As far as snakes, all of my dogs have been bitten so many times that they almost appear to have built up a level of immunity. A few benadryl's and they are good to go the next morning. I carry a spare mag with cheap ammo just to dispatch vermin. In a pinch I guess it would work on 2 legged vermin too. ;)

Mine was almost animal attack this weekend. Took my dog outside at my uncles house and a giant German shepard came charging at my dog like he was going to attack. I nearly cleared leather and realized he wasn't going to attack. He came up and sniffed my poor dog and let me pet him and just as fast ran away. My poor dog was so scared he didn't poop until we got home the next day.

I carry for the same reason I have a pocket knife, backpack full of med gear, a cell phone, and fuel in my truck...I do not want to get caught with my pants down. If I do not take care of me and mine, who will?

Like many others, my reason for carrying boils down to having options. That said I chose "crazy person" because it is people like the Aztec HS shooter that inspired me to get a CHP.

Sorry about that...corrected the image to reflect the category it's in:

Why Do You Need A Gun Feinstein.jpg

Because its my right to do so.

I don't think the US is any more dangerous today than it was 10 or 20 years ago. I'm not afraid of terrorists, and I don't live near any of my family. Firearms make sure honest, good people stay honest, good people. And I refuse to be anyone's victim.
