Post-41F NFA Stamp Tracking thread

The trip isn't contingent on the dealer having the approved form. It would be planned around the approval. Since weekends are the most convenient time for me to travel, if I find out on a Thursday or Friday that's it's been approved, I can try to plan to travel on Saturday.
As giddy as I am about receiving these items, if he were to contact me on a Monday saying he had my stamp, it would be a rough week. Lol.

Unless the tax stamp is in the hand of your dealer no transfer can take place.
My FFL received the stamp over two weeks from the approved date, the stamp is the receipt for the tax.

Technically once approved, the NFA item is legally owned by the transferee. Tax stamp, approved form, is just the receipt for the $200 paid and proof of ownership if asked for it by an ATF agent.

If I call ATF and the voice says Approved, is that acceptable for me to take possession or must you have the signed application with tax stamp affixed?

Returned form with Stamp must be in hand before the dealer will let you take possession.

Not if the dealer is willing to give it to you without receiving the stamp first. That's what Scott was saying above. It's just a receipt for the $200, and proof you paid it. Once it's approved, it's technically yours. I've picked one up before the F4 was back to the dealer. Probably doesn't happen real often, unless dealer and customer have a good relationship. Dealer would either have to be willing to take the word of the customer that ATF said it was approved, or call and confirm it.

My understanding is once I paid for the item, I own it.
Once ATF returns the approved form with the stamp only then I can take physical possession, after 4473 transfer.

I certainly would not want my item without the stamp in hand. Most cops don't know nfa rules enough as it is. I sure as heck wouldn't want to try have an item without the stamp in hand. I don't disagree but can't say many dealers would do that including Scott.

Legally it is yours once approved.

Say you loose the approved form 4 and do not have a copy, it does not mean you can not use it anymore or take it to the gun range or where ever. It is still legally registered to you or your trust.

I have a Form4 and approved stamp that I have never seen. It seems to have been lost or mailed to the wrong dealer. The dealer I was using called BATF and had a copy of the approved form faxed to him. At the time, he said that since I was approved, all the stamp was is my proof of payment. I still wanted a copy for my records. This was over 2 years ago and it hasn't shown up yet.

Type or write up a letter requesting a replacement form and email it to [email protected]

In the letter include, your or trust name and address, serial number, date of approval and that the form has been lost and you need a replacement.
Sign the letter, scan and email it to them. In about 45 days you will have a replacement.

To be clear... @Gazengine, you won't get another stamp. It'll be a certified copy of the Form that is (or at least should be) stamped like a notary would do.

Saw somebody on M4C post these:

SBR
Mailed 13NOV2017 (Silencershop)
Check Cashed 08DEC2017
Approved 13MAY2018
Received 25MAY2018

2 more SBR (Silencershop)
Mailed 12DEC2017
Check cashed 30DEC2017
Approved 23MAY2018
Received 30MAY2018

I was not expecting the 30 DEC at all. I still have a few before that pending.

...and yet there are still people spread out over at least 6 months before that waiting on stamps.

Have you called lately?

Couple weeks ago I think. Was just told pending as usual. Didn't specify anything about pending background. The lady I spoke to wasn't the one I talked to back at the beginning of the year. This one was not pleasant to talk to at all.

I let two more weeks go by and called Friday. Still waiting for the background checkon my 10/10 app.

I think I'm done calling. It's beginning to boil my blood.

As an example as to why nobody should get their hopes up when forms filed about the same time as theirs are being approved. These are two consecutive posts in an ARF thread.

1. NFA Item: SBR
2. Form Type: Form 1
3. Check Cashed: 1/6/18
4. Approve Date: 5/25/18
5. Forms Received: 6/4/18

f4
mailed Apr 18 2017
recv'd May 30 2018
rolled my own prints, no issues w/ those

Yep...an 8-9 month spread. :(

Hopefully you have more in the pipe...that way the next wait won't seem as long. :D

SBR pending in Feb. Was going to do a 9mm can but it's hard to keep shelling out $ with nothing to show for it. I'll start it when I get my others in hand.

It's seems they definitely trend close to in order with a handful of outliers like those. Praying I'm not one of them

Besides the 10/10 that I am completely belly-aching about, I have two Jan form 4 submissions. I'm looking forward to them, as well, but I have a .22 SBR waiting on the 10/10. :(

Details on the .22 SBR?
Just an M&P 15-22 with a 4.5" bbl, CMC 3.5# trigger and Magpul fixed carbine stock.

I need to investigate rail options, but I won't buy anything until the suppressor gets here. The can (if it ever gets here) is a Thunderbeast TBAC-22, I think. Lol.

@kcult I'm fixing to start the process to short barrel and suppress my H&K MP5 A5 in 22lr. Figuring on around 8" more or less coming off the end of the barrel. Any idea how that's going to affect the accuracy of my rifle? It's a very accurate shooter and I hope I'm not screwing that up.

Short barrel should affect velocity, not accuracy.

And you want it 4.5" or shorter to keep bulk pack subsonic.

Why not run the factory rail?

Not saying I won't. When I get my can, I'll throw it all together, step back, and then take a look at it. If I like it, it stays. If it just ain't speaking to me, I'll look into other options.

I do have a M-Lok version hiding somewhere. I may try swapping rails before looking elsewhere.
