Built this one 3 years ago. I raced limited sportsman and late models locally for 34yrs and always wanted to run modifieds. When I finally stepped away I decided to get a modified.....and convert it to street legal. I had done some fab work for Andy Petree years ago and loved the one he had. Ken Schrader got it, but I heard he sold it to a guy in Mooresville.
Mine is an old Roger Hill car for you guys who follow the mods around the south. I found it in a storage shed in Lenoir, NC, as a bare chassis with a beat up body. I stripped it all the way to a bare chassis, widened it, added a 2nd seat, and made a new body for it. I bought some of the suspension, built a lot of it, and had the chassis powder coated and the body painted by a body shop.
Ten months of work, $887 in DMV and other state required paperwork and I hit the road with it. It`s titled as a 2014 Custom Built Auto. At 1900# and 500hp it is F U N.1 (113).JPG

That is awesome! I used to love to watch the Mod Squad at Martinsville and N Wilkesboro and Bowman Gray.

When Petree was working for Earnhardt his boy was in my class - nice kid.

Sick car, more pictures if you can

Lol
..The chassis was originally built for left turns only. There's about 3" of offset built into it.

Engine and driver offset for weight to the inside when on the track.
On the alcohol fueled ones I watched in the 80s in Oswego, NY the engine was also rotated to the left.

By chance, did you ever race against or know Tommy Lewis from Greensboro?

Awesome...... Theres a guy near me by the last name fishel that has a street legal modified. I love the tires.....28.5 ?tall by 15.5 or 18.5 inches wide. I'm sure it would hold the road quite well.

Oswego super-mods are badass! There's a couple of them that have been made street legal too

There's a guy somewhere in the Mooresville area with a modified-for-street-use sprint car, I've seen it twice on 150 just west of town. That will catch you off guard, seeing those big tires and the wing coming at you when you're not ready for it.

A black #47 or a candy apple red with "XXX" on the door?

That is freakin' beyond cool. Bet that is a blast.

During the summers of '86 & '87 (junior & senior in HS), I worked at a NASCAR 1/2 mile dirt track in Kansas City. Loved watching the Late Models & Modifieds tearin' it up & swapping paint. Did maintenance during the week, track prep on Fri (starting Thur PM if it was too hot & dry) & got an extra $.50/hr & free food to help out the the concession stand girls on race nights.

Perfect job for a teenager. Bonus was driving one of the start trucks when the Outlaw Sprints came to town. Same company owned another track an hour away & same deal applied if I wanted to work their races. Only took 'em up on it for the sprint cars, 'cos they wanted me to drive a start truck & liked hanging out in the pits & watching the race up close & personal.
