Post Your Furry Friends...

Anyone else with a Golden: have they ever gotten a white spot on either of their eyes? BoBo has one on his right eye and we dont know where it came from, and part of his "eye lid" (I know dogs dont have eye lids) turned pink under it too but you cant see that in the picture

Poor girl was sick last night, so I woke up to a kitchen floor full of nastiness. She laid on the other side of the kitchen while I cleaned it up and was soooo sure I was gonna scold her. So pitiful lookin.
On the contrary...Im so very happy when she's sick, she does it in the kitchen and not on the carpets lol. I made sure to have a soft word or two and a scratch on the head for her while I was doing my chore. She's currently curled up in the recliner with me and I can tell she still doesn't feel good :(

My mamma has been out of town this week so I've been stopping by to feed their dog after I get my daughter from school every afternoon....... this guy showed up a several weeks ago in not so good shape. A little TLC and he's coming around nicely. I think "Henry" has found a home.

Ohhhhhhh ... you are in for a treat! Take her everywhere you can early. They are great dogs ... and one step down from a Mali so buckle up, hold on and enjoy the ride to come!

I know, I am excited. She is learning really well. I have one of the best trainers around and he started working with her today too.

I almost bought a Mali, but the Dutch was my first choice due to the coat.

I kept a friend’s Mali while he and his family went on vacation. When he was socializing Bowzer her bonded to me like a second Papa so I’m about the only non-family member that keeps him happy ... he won’t eat if boarded along with other depressive ways. When he arrived he and my Labs (5 and 7 years old) went wild running and playing ... they were puppies again. By the 3rd day the Labs had dropped a couple pounds but couldn’t get their regular hourly naps in because Bowzer would not allow it ... they had to play. No joke ... they’d go hide from him so they could rest and he’d go around looking for them and whining and if he didn’t find them he’d come to me an yap until I “entertained” him. We loved having him but by the end of the week it was nice to see Jake pull in to get Bowzer. When they got ready to leave I swear my 2 Labs (even more lighter now) said bye and then they looked at each other and went into the den to rest ... until dinner and then I had to call them and even then they were slow coming in. I also was kinda glad to see Bowzer’s visit end ... he was a high maintenance guest but welcome back anytime for shorter visits.

Dutch Shepherds are suppose to be just slightly chiller than Malis so buckle up cause your gonna be active.

I am excited. Our last dog was very active and kept me on my toes. I have been disappointed today as I wore her out playing and training and she has been napping a lot.
My buddy who is a trainer said she is rather laid back and he has been doing this for decades. He trains DDR and service dogs and retrains aggressive dogs. He worked her for about 45 minutes and laughed and said “she was about done for the day”. She did really well and is very responsive to both training treats and positive enforcement.

We adopted an older dog two+ years ago. After looking at all the dogs in two shelters, we didn't see any that caught our eye so to speak. We were actually heading for the exit, when a staff member lead a puppy by this guy's window. He jumped up and got down in play posture, he just wanted to play with the puppy.
With that we went back and visited with him (he had been asleep when we first saw him). No history, found way out in the wilderness by hikers, no tags, not chipped, in early January. Brought to the shelter, kept for 3 weeks in case someone came to claim him. After that he was evaluated, neutered, had a couple of teeth removed and moved to the adoption area.
Clearly he had a rough life to some extent, wary of some men, noise sensitive, but well behaved. He would flinch about anytime you reached to pet him, clearly a reaction to his previous life.

Anyway, we brought him home as a foster, and with a couple of days we decided he was a keeper. He was house broken, will not get on the furniture, will not go in the kitchen if either of us are in there, didn't come to the table when we ate, and wouldn't go down the stairs into the basement, where I could let him into the fenced yard. I would take him outside to a gate into the yard, and once he came in the basement and upstairs a couple of times, he started going down with no hesitation. I put a dog door in for him, and after one pass through it he had it figured out.

After two and a half years, it is still rewarding to see him enjoy his new life. He is a happy boy, has several dog beds around the house, sleeps in front of the heat register on cold mornings. His age was estimated when he was evaluated, and based on that, he will be eleven soon, but he sure doesn't act it.

And he is very likely pure Plott Hound, and has gone after a bear several times in they yard, nipping one on the butt as it went over the fence. Went after one, till it turned on him, but thankfully he was quicker and the bear decided to leave.

Adopt an older dog, the rewards are huge!

I've heard them called Maligators.

I'm sure I've posted more than a few pictures of this knucklehead.

Rescue from a hoarder/backyard breeder situation in IL. 30 Dachshunds, 10 of them pregnant females. 7 weeks old when we got him.

24lbs, which is stout for a wiener dog & strong as a bull. Thinks he's a pitbull & will wrap up your forearm with his front paws, put his teeth on your wrist & gator roll. He'll play catch/fetch for hours & he always brings the ball back, but yer gonna have to fight him for it when he does. Most WFO Dachshund I've ever met. He's goin' on 3 years old & still has zoomie fits, doin' laps of the house at warp speed. Also has what we call Tourette's fits, where'll he'll growl & whip his head, kick his back legs & squeak the crap outta his squeaky ball. He'll 'chase' the neighbors along the property line, throwin' a fit with his ball. Sounds like a pissed off squeak toy runnin' around the yard.

He will NOT bite you. He'll put his teeth on you, but never bite. His game is to get his mouth on you & if I ask if he's biting, he'll immediately stop & start licking me. No matter how tight I wind him up, get him snarlin' & fightin' for a toy, he has never so much as nipped & will sneak you a kiss if yer not paying attention. Smart as a whip. Completely potty trained since he was 11 weeks old. You can trick him once, if yer good. You will not however, trick him the same way twice & if you don't watch his little butt, he'll trick you.

He's snatched 2 birds out of the air & accounted for at least one rabbit & one mouse that I know of, over a dozen leopard frogs & literally scores of lizards. Little velociraptor actively hunts, knows every critters' favorite hideouts & checks them daily.

Just an awesome little dog & the funniest creature I have ever been around.

Best part has been his effect on my daughter. She's on the autism spectrum & doesn't do emotional attachment well & previously disliked dogs, especially Dachshunds, of which we already had three. She adores this dog. She shares almost anything she eats with him (provided it's safe) & that dog is putty in her hands. Even lets him sit in her lap in the recliner, which is unheard of for her. And, she's even become affectionate with the rest of the motley pack. Big time break through.

Dunno how we got lucky enough to be this little dude's people, but he is absolutely one of those 'once in a lifetime' dogs.

I challenge any of you to watch 'A Dog's Purpose' & not leak a little bit.

I picked up a new boy last week. I was checking out animal control and he didn't start jumping around and yapping like most dogs there do. He didn't even get up until I addressed him and it seemed that he had about given up on being rescued after 2 months there.

He still hasn't told me his name though.

He's a big un.

Good on ya! Looks like maybe a Rosco?? He will tell you his name in due time. I had two so far that had to tell me their names. Our current old fella came with his name, but he is the only one so far.

Have you had Danes before? They can have literal growing pains that you shouldn't get too alarmed by. They grow so fast that their bones can hurt for a while so a sudden limp can happen but that's to be expected.
Yes, I have had one, and I fell in love with the gentle giant personality .And I do know of this.

What’s his call sign going to be? Benny ... Petey ... Dammit?

And Dammit ... for those who have never stepped in a Dane “landmine” just think about the warm smelly idea.
