My son is learning a hard lesson about standing up for himself at work.
My son developed strep throat but delayed due to work.
He is on Humira for Crohns and is more susceptible to some infections.
He started getting better but the strep invaded his ear, on a Saturday.
His left ear was bleeding.
Finally got to the doctor. 4 drugs to deal with it.
He now has no hearing in left ear.
He sees a doctor today for his ear. Fingers crossed that these days didn't result in permanent hearing loss.
It would suck if the first huge lesson about not putting work before his health cost him half his hearing.

Sorry this is happening to him. That sucks. Hopefully it isn’t permanent. Strep throat is not one to mess around with. Caught early it’s easily curable with common penicillin. Let to go it can cause all sorts of complications from blindness to heart valve damage.

My wife has a chronic lung condition that the doctor thinks was from an undiagnosed step.
Sux.

Sorry to hear this. Hope it all works out.

When the danger has passed and he's feeling better ask him if he's sure it's not from all the rap music. :p

Prayers for your son.

A new piece of info. He was given clindamycin for the strep. One of the side effects in those who are immune-compromised is hearing loss. It was not his regular doctor that he saw but he told them his story and allergies including all penicillin derivatives.
His primary care would not have prescribed that. But he was in such rough shape that my wife took him to urgent care near his new home in Raleigh.
If hearing returns without surgical intervention, it is unlikely he'd be able to sue. I'm hoping that is the case. I'd rather he be whole than have grounds for a malpractice law suit.

And if all that isn't enough stress for him, his girlfriend was in a head on wreck. Idiot crossed over in front of her at intersection. She had the green.
She was saved from serious injury by her airbag and seat belt. She is a tiny thing. Almost a foot shorter than my son, and maybe 100#. That probably helped too. Less M*V.
Both cars totaled.

That's great news he's getting better.

texted today. He said it is getting better.
I told him that the prayers of CFF were working. [emoji41][emoji6]

Now tell him it was the rap music. Change out to blues or classic rock and his ear will never have another problem.

He sees a specialist in Monday.
Fingers crossed.
He's on a hot streak with sales and was still hesitant to take an appointment on a work day. If I was there I would have smacked him up side the head.

He saw the ear doctor today.
Fluid build up in the inner ear from the infection is causing the hearing loss.
The fluid should drain over the next couple weeks and his hearing should return.
So, doc says there is no sign of permanent damage.
His team lead (immediate boss) was still upset that Esteban was taking time to go to the doctor. Still mad that Esteban previously requested to leave work before when he had a fever and bleeding from his ear.
Esteban saved the texted messages in case he needs them.
I think the owner of that branch needs to educate his managers on the finer points of employment law.

Glad to hear the good news! His boss needs to be taken to the wood shed....

Maybe he should have a conversation with HR.

Yup. The owner told my son he was fine with him taking care of his health. I suspect the team lead, his immediate boss, has a history of lying about being sick to get out of work. People with such histories tend to think everyone does it. Just like burglars have the best home security systems.
[my father use to lie about being sick to skip school. He was a straight A student so his mom let is slide. He also thought we lied if we said we were sick unless we puked on his shoes. I went to school with a 102 fever and barely able to breathe. I wasn't puking so I was not sick. :D]

SAVE ALL COMMUNICATIONS! Record conversations if necessary.
1.5 years ago my son had a massive jaw infection that swelled one side of his face and closed that eye, he had to come to work selling loaded on opiates, the POS fired him. The four of them had to move in with us for a year.
I had him fwd all emails to his personal email, screenshot all texts and record conversations. That company lost the lawsuit last week.
Good news? He has a much better job that pays a lot more and he's thriving.
Great news? Your family's doing better :)

He has everything saved. With any luck, he can get the d-bag at least reprimanded for his continued threats and harassment.
Two new hires my son was training had appointments/sickness. at the same time. D-Bag blamed my son saying he was setting a bad example by not "thugging it out" through being sick. But the top guy in the division is actually a good guy so my hope is that he smacks down d-bag hard.

My son's ear is getting better. He can hear more each day as the inner ear fluid build up dissipates.
As an added bonus, the office owner has included him in the short list to attend NetCon in Dallas in July, all expenses paid including 1st class airfare.
So despite being sick he still outperforms the rest of the office.

Thanks for all the divine intervention requests.
My son's hearing has returned to 100% in the effected ear. :D:cool:;)

And he was the #9 sales person in the country last month.

Cool, glad to see him thriving. Up, up and away. Very cool how the young grow and learn.

His next big "learn" is driving a stick. I'm giving him my 2012 Veloster. It is one of the few small cars that he can easily fit in at 6'5".
Then i can buy a new Jeep Wrangler or the new Veloster R spec turbo.
