So since my dad passed in 2016 I've been my mother's primary caregiver. She has a condition called HSP and it has her in a wheelchair. It affects other things like bladder control bowel movement control but mainly it destroys your ability to use your legs in any normal capacity. With her needing more around the clock care than what I can provide she's been moved into a nursing home and we are going through the Medicaid process. They are doing a home evaluation tomorrow and my prayer is that one of two things happens, either she realizes that she can no longer be at home to care for herself. Or her strength is strong enough with the physical therapy she's had to be able to continue on her own. If you get time please send up a prayer that if her strength is not where it needs to be she won't be so reluctant about the nursing home and fighting that so much, and that we can get her into a nicer facility. But please add in that if it is God's will for her to come home on her own, underneath her own strength that I have the wisdom to see it.

Russell, I feel for you brother, and a prayer is up. We went down this road with my MIL in the past six months. She was at home alone, with my wife going there 2-3 times a day as a routine, and my SIL and I going there when my wife couldn't be there.

It got to a point where we were agonizing over whether to get in-home help, or what. Then she got sick, had to go the hospital for a week, and took one more step back in terms of strength and ability to be on her own.

They discharged her from the hospital to a nursing home for the routine rehab, and it became apparent that she would not be able to go home. She asked about "home" frequently but then she got settled in, and it hasn't come up again.

I guess my point is, sometimes life circumstances in these situations will dictate what needs to be done, even if it's hard, so you don't have to agonize as much over the decision.

Will do, Russell. I have been in your position, and it sucks.
Prayers.

Prayers sent. "dealing" with aging parents can be a full time job. You are smart to ask for his guidance.

We'll keep her, and you, in our thoughts and prayers Russell.

Incoming prayers.

So just throwing this out there as an update. She had an in-home evaluation today and it went pretty much like I expected. The recommendation of the physical therapist and occupational therapist is that she does not come home and stays in a facility for long-term care.

Guys we had a major development today for the better. Clapp's nursing home called me today and they had an opening for her. So if everything goes as planned and everything goes as it should she will get the transfer there on Friday. The nursing home she is at now drug their feet and did not fax over the the paperwork this afternoon. So I'm going to be there at 8 a.m. when the social worker gets in to get the paperwork from her myself. If you can please send up a prayer that she gets into clapp's and also pray for some patients tomorrow as I'm dealing with everything.

That's great news. I have found with nursing homes you have to stay on top of things, just as you are doing now. Those aids don't get paid much so if you need something done right, or right now, you sometimes gotta make it happen yourself.

Clapps is where my mom was for a while. They treated us well.
Prayers

prayers to your Mom, You and your family. that the best outcome happens.

Guys I was just on providing update to let everybody know how things are going at this point in time. We're very blessed with the fact that Medicaid came through for my mom and so she will get to stay in the nursing home and get the care that she needs. She's not the happiest about it, which is understandable but there's really not much else that could be done at this point in time. Hopefully with some time she will be more comfortable with the outcome.

Glad you got that settled for her. My MIL routinely asked when she was going home until she didn't. And then when we'd ask her if she was being treated well, and if she was comfortable and the answer was always "yes". I hope your mom has the same experience.

More prayers sent. I stayed at Clapps for a while, nice place with very helpful, friendly staff.
