Please share any opinions or thoughts about this pre series Kimber. How are they compared to other forged, no firing pin production guns such as 70 series Colts and Springfields?
I have an opportunity for one and it appears very nice but im not familiar with the Kimbers.

Thanks

Do you know whether it’s a Clackamas or Yonkers gun?

If it’s Yonkers, is it from the Ron Cohen era? He was responsible for a huge dive in QC and cost-cutting measures that really cheapened the guns.

Kimbers basically range from “not even comparable to a Colt or Springfield because they are so much better” to “it’s a gutjob frame and slide stuffed with cheap sintered parts that were likely not properly fit or hardened.” Depends on time.

As an aside, the current management has really turned build quality around. Took quite a few years, but they’re nice 1911s if you can tolerate the Swartz safety.

Thanks I think that gives me some knowledge. I have heard of the Clackamas era Kimbers and knew they would be less common. This particular one is Yonkers, but before they came with the Swartz safety.

I have a Classic Gold Match, Yonkers, accurate as all get out. Slide action is smooth as can be. Got it from a friend, gave him $700 for it because I liked it that much. Shoots my "any variety case" reloads without a burp. If you were closer I'd invite you over to give it a run.
