2A39EAA4-6353-433F-AF44-8D5E81A91402.jpeg Picked up this 1995 Z28 project car yesterday. It’s got a 500 horsepower modified LT1 with a Comp Cams roller cam and lifters, 88 mm throttle body, and ported heads. Engine has less than 1000 miles since built. Also has 3.73 rear gears installed, and Borla exhaust.

It’s got a couple electrical gremlins I have to figure out, and it’s been sitting for around three years. Gonna need paint eventually, new window/door seals, and a bunch of TLC.

A friend I work with spent quite a bit of money on this car, and then lost interest for some reason. I’d been wanting it for a while, and when he wanted a revolver I’d recently obtained, we made a trade.

Check you ground paths.
I’m not much on car electronics, so this is new to me. Previous owner said the security system malfunctioned. Ignition has a chip and key has a chip. He tried to bypass this system and I have a bunch of wires to figure out.

Good luck, keep us posted.
I feel you on the TLC thing, that's how my car is, lots of little things.
After 29 years things fade, break, wear out!

Does Tommie know you now have to grow a mullet?

Oh that doesn't sound like a good combination. Purchase an alldata subscription for it, don't mess with a Haynes or Chiltons manual. Alldata will make your life MUCH easier, especially chasing wires and testing components. https://www.alldata.com/oe-info-student-and-diyer

Will it do anything now or is it just dead with key on?

If you need a hand with anything feel free to holler, you know my schedule.

LT1...gotta be a problem w the opti-spark...

that’s the answer you will get on every forum lol!

i have 2 vehicles w LT1’s. i honestly don’t know as much as i should but i like them!

It’s dead. Been sitting for three years and the battery is shot. I’m gonna get a new battery in the next couple days and see what works and what doesn’t. Thanks for the offer Mike, you’ll probably be hearing from me soon.

Previous owner said it’s the chip security system in the key and ignition not recognizing each other. My buddy says it’s old tech and an easy fix. He says he’ll match a resistor with the chip in the switch and bypass it.

I looked into the Opti-spark, and the car is supposed to have an aftermarket distributor that’s supposed to fix that problem.

The opti is actually a pretty cool system...the main issue is that it is located at the bottom under the water pump and prone to get wet which messes it up...

This computer controlled muscle car is very new to me. I’m used to working on the classic stuff.

A few years ago, I had a 1968 Nova with a 400 small block that had 461X heads, a healthy roller cam, full MSD Ignition, Holley 850 double pumper on an Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake, 4:11 gears in a 12 bolt rear end.

It ran 10.60’s on slicks and 11.20’s on street tires. It also got 7 mpg!

Can always wire in a resister/resistors that match the resistance of the chip on the key. Those readers are problematic., alternative to that would be to have the pcm flashed to get rid of the pats system altogether.

So Where are the engine pics?

Pic in post #10 is the only one I’ve got at the moment. It’s still got the factory valve covers, although I’ll replace them with something better looking at some point. Only thing that doesn’t look factory under the hood is the K&N air intake.

Everything’s been put on the back burner while I’m virus leave from work. As soon as I get back to work I’ll start on it again. Also had some title problems, but that’s been straightened out finally in the last few days.

Haven’t posted about the car in a while, and it’s been a freakin’ nightmare. After cleaning out the entire fuel system, including dropping the tank(which involved removing the rear end), the fuel pump was replaced and the car finally ran, but skipped and overheated.

Got a mechanic buddy involved, and we discovered it had a blown head gasket on the drivers side. Two head bolts on the affected cylinder came out with his fingers, so whoever built the engine missed torquing those bolts. Both valves on that cylinder were cracked. Decided to remove and check the other head, and it was ok.

Went ahead and had both heads reconditioned, and they’re back on the engine. Still have to button everything back up and try it again. The car has been at his business, and we’ve been working on it in his spare time. Hopefully I’ll have some good news in the next couple weeks.

Recently found out that the original owner of this car was a service member that gave his life for his country. My friend bought it from the service members father.

This one is fixing to move off the back burner. Other projects have gotten in the way. Just ordered a set of full roller rockers from Jeg’s, and recently bought new tires. It’s gonna be a money pit, but I only live once....
