Propane prices?

We paid $350 for 150 gallons back around the beginning of December. With the mild winter we had we made it on one fill up. Cheapest year we’ve had in our house. Usually we plan about $900 a year on propane and we only use it to heat with one heater that is located in our living room.

Update

I got ahold of the manager of the branch that supplies us. He explained (and I found it logical) that they were hedged at a much higher price and are working their way thru the over-market priced supply. Anyway, he agreed to a substantial reduction in the invoice. It didn’t get down to some of those numbers you guys posted but I’m satisfied.

Something I never thought of (stupid guy I can be) before I asked him, is that the time to fill up the tank is July when very little gas is being sold.

I’ve been quaking in my boots as it’s time for more gas. Watching what’s happening with fuel, I could only imagine. It seems their “market price” (what you pay if you simply ask for gas) is now $3.29. The guy knocked off a dollar so I’m gonna fill it at $2.29.

They’re also coming late next week for another leak test on the tank.

In the current spending bill Slo Joe is pushing there is a tax on natural gas … the bill refers to it as a “fee” charged to producers of natural gas which is going to be partly used to pay for the Glasgow Agrrement Biden sign up for this Summer as well as to pay for other pet green crap. That “fee” or whatever they want to call it will be passed on to the consumer in the firm of higher heating bills.

Last month we paid $2.75 a gallon. They are due out in the next day or so so I will update with current charge.

Filled 2 small tanks last night at TSC and it was $3.89/gal. Little girl that filled the tank said the price had gone from $2.69 in January when she started to $3.89 now. I asked her if she knew what had changed since January, occupant in the white house.

They just did the fill, 295.5 gallons. 😳

While the guy quoted me $2.29, the bill shows $2.399 (before $12 fee and 7% sales tax). When the boss comes to do the leak test, I’m gonna ask why the price difference. 10 cents a gallon isn’t much but it’s $30 on the total bill.

ouch

Thanks for all the responses. Now I need a bit more guidance.

We built the house in 1997-8. I have no idea what we may have paid for the tank installation and lines. We do pay an annual rental fee for the tank. We’ve always bought gas from that same outfit.

Since it’s apparently their tank, can I continue renting it but shop around for cheaper gas? Should I tell them to “come get it” and start all over? What are my options? The gas is only used for a cooktop and grilling. It seems to me we consume an enormous amount of gas but they found no leaks when I asked for a check.
I built a house in SC in 1995. At that time I wanted my propane tank buried. The only way I could have it buried was to purchase the tank. The other option was to have an above ground tank and it had no rental fees as long as I signed up for the auto fill program which had a minimum “service” fee every month Of like $10-15 if I remember correctly. As it worked out my ex wife wound up friends with the secretary of the propane company and she took off the monthly fee and also made sure we got the “commercial“ rate that restaurants paid. We saved a ton. When I talked to friends around town, pricing was all over the map. It was obvious to me that the key word was negotiate.

I recently learned that. Makes me think back to over twenty years of calling and saying, “Please fill the tank while I bend over”. 😢

As he agreed, he checked his notes and recognized he quoted me the lower price. So, the bill has been adjusted to reflect $2.299.

I need another 300 gallons. Now they’re quoting $3.50/gallon. 😳

Says I can get down to $3.00 if I sign up for some kinda plan.

What have you paid recently?

We do not get another fill up until October. I wonder what it is going to be by then. This stuff is just nuts.

Not quite sure. Received a notification that there is a summer special on refills that "expires soon" but didn't have a date. If we buy 200+ gallons at a time, the price is discounted and we are about 30 gallons shy of being able to put another 200 in the tank, so it will be a few more weeks.

Different companies seem to have different prices and policies, which is always the case. I had called and talked to my gas supplier, Foster Fuels, out of Brookneal, VA last week and asked about the current price. My price is $2.99/gal. which is up only 20 cents since the last gas in got back in April. I'm on auto-fillup but anytime the driver is in my neighborhood, he will call and see if I want fuel so I let him come in and top off. No difference in price.
