Had an FAL and sold it as it strung shots 6" vertically; would like another .308 auto battle rifle.

Can get a PSA complete rifle for price of RRA upper, anyone have thoughts on quality vs value? Since moving to SC I'm more tempted to buy from them as I can pickup in person now . . .

Not expecting miraculous accuracy just want a reliable decent shooter, also may add .243 etc uppers in future so really would like a AR10 lower.

I have a Gen 2 PA10 with the stainless 18" barrel, and I'm completely satisfied for what it cost me. I looked at the RRA .308 ARs for a long time, but I'm sure not jealous.
Not sure what a 50% premium gains you in accuracy. In fact, my PSA shoots 1.5 MOA with run of the mil M80C 147gr Lake City
ammo and under MOA with Federal 168gr GMM. Compare that to your FAL, or an HK91, or an M1A.........for twice the price.
Plus the AR manual of arms and ergos with optics are to me, superior to everything I just mentioned. Easy and inexpensive to mod to taste.

It's heavy. Mine weighs a little over 11lbs with a Leupold 3-9x50 on an ADM recon mount. You won't tote it around the woods like a deer rifle. But god forbid I ever have to use it on overwatch, or dispel the horde of marauders approaching my home then....perfect application for 25rd of .308.

Only thing non-factory I added to mine was a good 3.5lb single stage trigger (RA434), and a Luth AR MBA4 adjustable rifle stock.

I have a gen2 psa rifle also. Was less than impressed with factory trigger so it was swapped with a CMC. Also changed the grip to an ergo and throwed on a double star fixed stock. All together I have $700 in it. Shots 3/4 " groups at 100yds when I do my part so I am satisfied with that for an auto loader. I used to have my thermal on it, never weighed it but it was heavy.

I also have a Gen II PA10. The first thing I did was swap out the trigger. I can tolerate a less than perfect trigger but that was not acceptable. Period.

Now it sits in the safe waiting for an adjustable gas block so it won't rip the rims right off the case. Seriously. I had a full stoppage malfunction on shot #1. After clearing it I tried again in case it was a fluke. Nope. Deja Vu.

Some brands of brass it only bends the rim, enough so that it can't be reloaded.

It does run steel case like a champ though.

Accuracy? Meh.

2+ MOA when I do my part.

I have a (gen 1 ?) PSA PA10. Hell on brass and over gassed as it came in the box. 18" bbl. I changed out the carbine butt stock and buffer for a rifle stock and buffer and it runs a lot better. I also have a Miculek brake from MWI on mine. Whole lot more fun to shoot now. Sub moa groups with match ammo like Fed Gold Medal Match. Reloads can be problematic. Must use a smaill base die on mine or new brass otherwise bolt will not lock. Chamber could probably be reamed by a gunsmith that knew what he was doing and that problem would go away. Maybe some head space issue as well as it would pop primers from time to time and lock up the trigger. Most of this has gone away with the buffer change out. My gunsmith has one and he put an adjustable gas block on his and most of his problems went away. I'm not a very good salesman for PA10's. Mine gave me fits for a while. I have probably had 6 AR15's from PSA made from uppers and lowers snapped together and nary ever a problem. Not one. If I had to do it all over again, I would not buy a PA 10 and will probably eventually sell mine. I had an Armalight 308 as well. Never had a single hiccup with it but of course I sold it.

I've had a PSA AR10 for about a year now. I installed a 3.5lb CMC flat trigger, Bushnell tactical fixed 10x scope, and a magpul upgraded adjustable stock.

Off a bipod, its a solid 1-1.5 moa rifle with PPU match ammo, and I regularly shoot it out to 200 and 300 yards. Only ammo issues I've had, have been with some of my reloads that I'd done for my 308 bolt gun. (Remington 700 varmint with a long chamber) Handloads done to factory spec run just fine in it. Mine seems to shoot best with 168gr match bullets, but its good enough for banging steel with standard 147gr 7.62 ammo.

I'm very pleased with mine. I've put a few hundred rounds down range over the last year. I have less invested in it than I'd have put in an FAL or M1A, and its more accurate and ergonomic than either tend to be.

Thx folks - some of the new Gen 3 models have decent stock furniture, adjustable gas block and 2 stage trigger; might look into one as it seems to fit the bill.

Can always swap / trade up on uppers later, Giesselle triggers etc etc if I really like it. But probably just going to be happy with a steel banger for 300 yards.'

I'll keep watching the deals at PSA . . .

I haven’t owned a PSA AR10 but I had one made by Aero precision. It was a lot better shooter than the FAL I owned. More accurate and less recoil.

It may take a little fixing, PSA has had some issues with their PA-10s. The good news is they're inexpensive to fix if that's the case, and if you get a good one all you'll ever need is a $90 LaRue MBT to make it an excellent gun.

Forgot, I had a DSA FAL. Rear sight was an after thought. I was told by someone who knows, that these guns were made to be "assualt rifles". Advance while laying down a bunch of un aimed fire. Ok. Mine would group about 4" at 100yds on a good day with 168gr FGMM ammo. 6" on a bad day. Mine had the bipod. I think removing that and shooting off the bench with the bbl not touching anything (If that is even possible), the groups might tighten up.

Fixed it with a 5.4oz (rifle or H3) buffer weight and a good trigger. You may need a 308 carbine spring but my Luth kit came with everything for a buck-30 from Primary Arms..when free shipping and no tax was a thing [emoji38]

My brother just bought the entire recoil assembly from ArmaLite for like $75 and is good to go. I'd already installed a LaRue MBT for him, so he's all set.

If you buy a gen 3 PA10, the 2 stage triggers are gtg. I’ve used several of these triggers, and swapping in a set of JP yellow springs gives a 2 1/4 pound pull that’s very smooth. My 7.62x39 AR has this setup, and pops Russian primers with ease.

This is what I ended up with for around around a grand or so

I bought a complete lower Gen II and a 20" upper and I think it cost me about $600-650. Trigger was a standard mil style so I swapped it out to a Timney, changed A2 flash hider to a VG6 Gamma I got on sale for $39, put a grip on I had and popped on an extended mag release I had on hand and that was it. Trigger was about the only must in all those but even then you could have gotten one of the lighter spring kits and used that for less money. Shoots great at about MOA with match ammo. Seems pretty reliable.
