They take over everything. They exude a substance that doesn’t allow other trees to grow. They shade out everything. They are none native and propagate like rabbits.
Hard to get rid of because they are everywhere.
Here is the trick.
Larger trees please follow this method. If you don’t, the tree senses it has been wounded and sends out a message thru the root system to send up suckers everywhere.
I have found Tordon RTU at tractor supply to be very effective.
Take a hatchet or axe and cut around the tree leaving small spaces between each cut. Cut just deep enough to slice open the sapwood. Apply the Tordon into the cuts. It’s blue so you can see the coverage.
I have found that 2 times (two weeks in between) of doing this kills them dead and they don’t sense it is in trouble.
Young (1.5 inch or less) can just be cut down and chemical applied to the stump.
Do the application within 15 minutes. The tree already starts to heal itself and after that period of time the absorption in minimal or nonexistent.
