Maybe that blank firing adapter is responsible for it being an injury and not a fatality?
still, that's a heck of a big oops

I saw an all call for blood donors, as Madigan ran out of blood supply

He needed SIXTY units

That’s like 6-8 entire exsanguinations. Unreal

About three months after I left Ft Jackson and retired, there was a training accident where linked 7.62 drawn from the ammo supply point had live rounds mixed with the blanks and a trainee detonated an M240 on the firing line. A 3D printed feed tray distinguishing tool would break the belt if live ammo hit it and not go into the action. I believe any belted ammo should be inspected 100% by the ammo NCO before issuing it out. Break the seal, pull it out. It doesn’t take long

<cough> walking blood bank/ROLO <cough>

We had a GSW come in a few weeks ago that had 110 blood products, and still died. Depleted us of all O- and type specific. That's a call to the Red Cross you don't want to make.

Doesn’t sound like they had that in place, and you can only take so much from your O donors especially when you need near triple digits worth of units

No, no one has a WBB in place at the hospital level. Hell, it's not even SOCOM-wide yet, and like TCCC DOD wants to get to to all line/combat units.

I brought up the idea when we discussed the case and people looked at me like I had three eyes and a horn. For such an innovative and forward-leaning institution we're still mired by "it can't be done."

Something is wrong with this story.

As the M249 is a belt feed system

The blanks belt comes in a plastic feed box and as blanks are shorter than live ammo you can not feed live ammo in the plastic blank feed box.

Someone made a mixed belt.

M249 can be magazine fed... supposed to be a "back-up" but if they didn't get linked then they were using mags. Its always inconsistent to feed with mags...we would take a 30rd spring and shove it into a 20rd round...you only got about 17 or 18 rds in it, but it would feed (emergency use only, LOL)

They do mention the magazine feed capability in the article.

Possibly whomever had the saw was using mags and still had live rounds in one and then not paying attention loaded blank rounds on top of the live rounds...just stupid and incompetent.

I suspect that's how it may have happened. Curious.

I received over 40 units in 1981. Still paying Red Cross back!.
