I have a PSA AK 103 and looking into mounting options to throw my nomad on. PSA makes This flash hider can thing. On the interior there is a solid tube that can be seen below. The outer sleeve just threads off and is the "hub" thread pitch. Why in the world is this long tube here (picture below)? Is it too close to a suppressor design if the tube was cut at the red arrow?

Is this some copy of a Russian design I'm too ignorant to understand? I know PSA is copying some zentico furniture

From what I understand this thing is cosmetic only, and offers zero actual function. It's just a barrel extension designed to look like the Russian Delta-Tek flash hiders. The external threads allow the faux sleeve to screw on or off, but those blast ports don't actually do anything. The extension is long because the authentic Delta-Teks are that long.

Fast forward to 5:09:

I don't think I answered your actual question, but just in case you are pondering something - I wouldn't trust mating a suppressor to any Asian airsoft-quality decorative crap from PSA.

Jeez, back to jmac then

No internal baffles.
The flash cans I've seen the exit diameter is considerably larger than the bullet diameter. If I made a cut there would be an exit hole but also a bunch of little ones. Although it'd be much less effective than the delta tek in the vid above. It's a flash hider by legal definition the PSA definitely would be.

I appreciate yalls help. Maybe I should just suck it up and go with jmac even though they are ugly as sin.

Pardon the dumb question, but doesn't Dead Air have an adapter? I swap my Wolfman on a number of AK variants with various thread pitches. I think Griffin Armament makes a 24x1.5 adapter that is compatible as well.

And I know the JMAC stuff is kinda wild looking, but IMHO it does jive pretty well with the AK platform.

Definitely not a dumb question, dead air doesn't make anything for the nomad. As far as I can tell they point you to buy the wolverine in situations like I have. Options are jamc, rig this PSA thing or buy a 24 to 1/2x28 from griffin then run a FH or direct thread to the can. Maybe a machinist could take a keymo flash hider and make it the proper thread pitch for my ak?

I'm kind of drawing up blanks. This is the best commerical option available but it's ugly and paying so much for something that looks so dumb kills me on the inside. Jmac has an adapter available (purple stair) as well but I'm sure unthreading the mount and putting it on the can and putting the whole assembly back on would be far from having any kind of return to zero?

@Squanchy will one of the Blast Diversion Shields from JMAC cover that flash hider? I have one of their RRD hiders on my 104UR and use a shield on it when not suppressed:

Yes that blast shield is the standard hub mounting pitch. I'm not sure if the normal blast shield is long enough, on their website they are listing the extended one as an add on.

The "zero" would work perfectly with the blast shield.

Do y'all know how return to zero is on a direct thread situation? It's a PSA AK so really something like 3 moa should be fine šŸ˜‚ I could probably remove the flash hider retainer pin and just thread the can with the adapter whenever I wanted to be quiet.

I've not had any issues with my AK-V or Scorpion, and those are both direct threads for the Wolfman. But I generally shoot steel so am not chasing MOA. Honestly, I'd be more focused on confirming concentricity on that PSAK than zeroing.

Justin McMillon, who owns JMAC, is pretty responsive on Reddit if you have an account and want to ask for some expert advice. And they're generally pretty quick via their website as well. His wife Ashley responded to a specific question I had within about a half hour of emailing them. I would have much preferred a video call with her, but her email was helpful, too šŸ˜
