Every dog I have ever had has played with tennis balls including Lucy. I've noticed some wear to her lower canine teeth and when I mentioned a cleaning to the vet the first thing she picked up on was the wear.

She produced a tennis ball and gave it to Lucy and the way she held the ball in her mouth explained the wear pattern. She went on to explain that a tennis ball holds dirt and will become abrasive very quickly. Lucy went on to have a successful cleaning and if I stop using tennis balls the tooth enamel will eventually rejuvenate to a large degree.

Off to the pet supply to find a substitute and I found a complete line of balls made by "Chuck it". Much softer, easier on her teeth, can't hold dirt and fit the Chuck it thrower. She's had them almost 2 weeks and they show no signs of wear or deforming and she's happy as ever.

Do your dog a favor, check it out......

Get the glow in the dark ball- hilarious when the pooch's running back at night & all you see is a bouncing green glow.
FYI, the Chuck-It balls sink in water. They're easily lost at the beach.

My pitbull is like a canine garbage disposal. I buy him only the Kong brand toys, because anything else he will chew up (and sometimes eat) in a matter of minutes. He loves squeaky toys, but I have to limit him to 30 minutes of play with them at a time, or he'll start trying to tear them apart.

The Kong toys typically last him a few months, so I only have to buy 2-3 a year.

Both my dogs are thoroughly unimpressed with tennis balls. One less thing to worry about.

We stopped giving our pit any kind of ball because she just eats them. Most squeaker toys last about 10 minutes. Best toy we have bought was one made of fire hose. She hasn’t been able to tear it up yet, going on about 6 months.

My lab was a stick and frisbee master. Never really cared to chase balls. She would but preferred the other.

Parents had a dog for a while that I am not sure how he had any teeth for years, dog loved to pickup things and play and carry things, large sticks, Bricks, Rocks it didn't matter he just loved carrying them and playing with them no matter the object, made my teeth hurt just to watch when he would be running with rocks and bricks in his mouth. Lets just say he was not the brightest star in the sky and it eventually cost him but was funny to watch for the years he was here.

My dog destroyed tennis balls in 30 minutes. Maybe sooner. I found Kong makes a good product. Very tough. She can’t tear them up almost at all. They are like an ole Marine. Check em out.

Tennis balls, huh.

Penny likes sticks, but you have to take them away her before she chews them up.

My Doberman can, and will, chew up a Kong BLACK (the strongest ones) in a day. The toys that have the replacement warranties usually stop us after the third or fourth swap

This little shit lives to play fetch, but will destroy a tennis ball in less than 30 seconds & he's always dragging in sticks & chewing them up. Oddly, he doesn't tear up his squeaky/furry toys & plays with those constantly.
JRT/Basset cross? That’s a tenacious looking little hound!

That, my friend, is a Dachshund. Tenacious ain't the half of it. Roscoe is 100% batshit crazy, strong as hell & very, very smart. Sneaky little bastard, too & has to wear a bell, but is also super affectionate & a total lap baby.

He was 6 m/o & 12lbs in that pic. 10 m/o & 18lbs now & I still pick him up like that all the time.

My GSD is a freak about toys. She loves the chuck-it balls and I had found a similar ball that was shaped like the Death Star a while back, and she loves that too. The thick canvas/Kevlar type toys don’t stand a chance.

Tennis balls suck for pups. They are not durable and can get lodged in their throat and cut off their air passages, so I’ve never used them, especially with bigger dogs.
