Every dog I have ever had has played with tennis balls including Lucy. I've noticed some wear to her lower canine teeth and when I mentioned a cleaning to the vet the first thing she picked up on was the wear.
She produced a tennis ball and gave it to Lucy and the way she held the ball in her mouth explained the wear pattern. She went on to explain that a tennis ball holds dirt and will become abrasive very quickly. Lucy went on to have a successful cleaning and if I stop using tennis balls the tooth enamel will eventually rejuvenate to a large degree.
Off to the pet supply to find a substitute and I found a complete line of balls made by "Chuck it". Much softer, easier on her teeth, can't hold dirt and fit the Chuck it thrower. She's had them almost 2 weeks and they show no signs of wear or deforming and she's happy as ever.
Do your dog a favor, check it out......
