Mods, if this is in the wrong place please relocate. Had the oppportunity Sunday night to visit the new UNC/Rex Hospital ER in Holly Springs with my wife. Dropped her off, security guy pushed her in as I parked. When I entered the ER doors he asked me if I had any guns, knives or pepper spray. Heard him ask my wife the same thing as I was getting in my car to go park, so I unloaded firearm, extra mag and knife in the parking lot. Inside the ER, I put everything from my pockets in a tray and walked through a metal detector. So be ware. Not sure about the main entrance.

When I worked at Rex Hospital 20+ years ago the Security Officers transitioned from unarmed to armed with arresting authority.

It’s my understanding that most of our hospitals in the area *could* be considered educational property, due to teaching going on, and carrying on educational property is a felony. Not saying what you should or shouldn’t do. Just know the risk/reward tradeoff.

Every hospital (Wake county) has this policy. We keep a gun bag in the ambulance incase we need to bring a patients firearm with them, than pass it off to hospital security.
Do you or the patient, if able to do so, clear it or just put in in the bag?

I used to leave my lab to go visit my mrs in the hospital. fortunately i had my lab to lock up anything i wasn't supposed to have in the hospital (or my lab).
When my uncle had a heart attack, my poor aunt was having trouble trying to dig all the knives out of her purse and eventually just gave up, cleared her person of any metal items, and left her hole bag with the cop at the metal detector. She's a whole lot more gangster than she lets on.
