New to AK's. I picked up a new PSAK-47 GF3 with Magpul furniture the other week. I like how there are tons of accessories and it's made in the USA. The AK I had always wanted was a Zastava ZPAPM70. I stumbled upon one of those at Sportsmans with the Hogue furniture for $999 and I grabbed it. After getting it, I realized the muzzle device is welded on, and the accessories are harder to find, but it's kind of considered the tank of AK's and is a great rifle to have. I am pulled between the two; one where I can customize it more, and one that has a great reputation and built solid but not as many parts. Anyone have any opinions on what YOU would do in this situation? Is the Yugo that much better and worth holding onto, or is the PSA just as good and more fun?

Between the two I would choose the zpap, however, the PSA uses standard AKM accessories/furniture and for the zpap you’ll need Yugo specific furniture. I like how the yugo’s have a longer length of pull and longer handguards personally, standard AKMs feel a little short for me.

When it comes to the AK, imports > domestics.

ZPAP is definitely the better choice between the two, but I'd probably keep and shoot both because I like variety. If you get bored with one or the other you can always sell it, but the ZPAP is going to be the more valuable, higher quality, and attractive option.

What are you trying to do to the Zastava? It's true that Yugo/Serbian pattern AKs use some proprietary parts, but there are aftermarket options for literally every one of those parts. If the muzzle cap is tack welded on it's a super easy fix with a Dremel or file and a steady hand.

Sold my PSA tonight. Now I gotta find accessories for my Yugo. That's not as easy.

And we keep askin' but you aren't answerin'...

What exactly are you having trouble finding? We can probably help you source whatever Yugo-spec parts and accessories you have in mind.

@agilmore01 , I’ve been going through this for a month now and am about done. Look at my thread, there are numerous links posted by the generous members here. I picked up some stuff at descent prices off the AKFiles, some from members here, and some stuff was given to me by friends.
You’ll need an M92 to go with that M70 now and word is that a new batch is on its way Very soon.....

I realized after I purchased the M70 that the muzzle brake is welded, so I need to find a way to cut it off and out a different one on. I had purchased a MI QD scope mount for my PSA, but realize I need a different one for mine, and MI makes them but are out of stock nationwide. I want to put a different pistol grip on it but hear it's a little different than the standard AK. Since I am new to AK's, I dont know what all is out there. PSA's website had a ton of accessories, but I wont assume most will fit my Yugo. I don't know what all I want to do yet.

Most of what you want or need right here, I’ve purchased from apex multiple times.

@agilmore01 Does your M70 have a muzzle cap or is it the standard slant brake? Dumb question, but you're certain it's welded on and doesn't simply have a tough detent pin, which you have to push in and then rotate the brake off the muzzle clockwise, not counterclockwise (most AKs are threaded 14x1LH). Does it have a bayonet lug? I'm curious if this is a feature-less rifle made for ban states like some of the WASR-10 variants. Do you have a link to Sportsmans for the item you bought?

If the muzzle device is welded on it should be a small tack weld bead that you can carefully break off with file or a Dremel, then unscrew and touch up with some liquid blue. There are some videos on YouTube to walk you through this. I don't endorse one over the other, but here's a pretty clear, straightforward explanation:

In addition to Midwest Industries, you might want to look for an RS Regulate AK-307M optic mount (though also widely sold out, and you'll also need an upper mount of your choosing). Secondhand/private sales might be your best bet in today's climate. If you still have your MI mount, it wouldn't hurt posting a WTT ad here and/or creating an account at the AK Files, which has a huge BST marketplace for AK stuff. Any aftermarket pistol grip should work. I have a Magpul MOE+ on a Yugo AK right now. If yours came with Hogue furniture, it should actually have a Tango Down AK grip and those are very tough to beat IMO.

It has the slant brake, and the box included a note saying the original device was removed after import, they put on the slant brake, and then welded it on due to Reg 922. It has a bead all around it. The retention pin is serving no purpose at this time, it's just free floating.
It came with Hogue furniture, but the grip is not the standard Hogue grip. Its plastic, and has big TD in it, so its probably the Tango Down.
I was able to put the other MI scope rail on it for standard AK's, but it sits back farther and higher, but it functions. I would rather have the right mount that fits right. I have seen the RS Regulate mounts, but they are too $$$ for me.

I was wrong, but in a good way. My slant muzzle brake was not welded on. I was able to unscrew it. I have to use a small tool to push the pin all the way down farther than I could with my finger and it turned.
