Any thoughts what makes PTO fail to engage? Loud click in the dash, which I’m thinking was a relay. 4’ bush hog was used via same PTO maybe 3ish weeks ago? I’m thinking the gear box on the bush hog might need cleaned and greased but I don’t know how common that is? Mid mount mower (via PTO) worked fine, but forgot to check the rear PTO after I removed the bush hog. Shaft was stiff while removing, that’s why I partly think it might just need greasing. Not the end of the world, actually have a tow behind bush hog I’m going to use the rest of this year to avoid wear on the tractor but wondering what I should check out cause I would like to get rear PTO working again. Tractor is a Deere 755.

Pm me the SN of the the tractor and I will get you what ever info you need.

Will get a SN. Have it written down somewhere, but Tractor is out on the land.

There is a selector for rear, mid mount or both. Loud click, PTO light for just a sec, but no movement with rear or both. Mid mount did that once and didn’t engage, then worked and engaged the mower deck.

3pt lifts okay (both decks) so I don’t think it’s just a hydraulic pressure issue.

I was thinking maybe the magnet safety switch. There was a silver bowl that was out of place when I went to put the battery back in. But then I don’t think it should have worked with mid mount if it was the switch. So less sure about that.

Stiff and turns or immobile? Is the transmission in neutral? I may not be asking pertinent questions, but I’m thinking of our tractor where the PTO is off the manual transmission.

Seemed immobile but I need to play with it more. It’s HST so don’t have a neutral that I know of to test.

That’s what I was wondering. Hopefully someone with better knowledge of HST based PTOs will chime in.

Hydraulic pressure only raises and lowers the deck or hitch. Activation of the deck is normally run of of hydrastats
