Public Service Announcement

I was going to grill some chicken for supper. Started the grill and got distracted. Came back to check on it and the temp was around 625. Around double what I was shooting for. I’ve opened and closed the lid several times cooling it off but it’s taken forever to to get back around 325-350. I was just ranting because I’m getting hangry 🤣
 
My grill has two temperatures.

Off.
Full.


The only thing that gets adjusted is how long something sits on it.
What I’m cooking on tonight is the Pit Boss version of the big green egg. They are great to cook with, but since getting the Traeger, I’ve really slowed down using this one. Tonight thought what the heck. They are good cookers but don’t expect a huge temp change to happen quickly.
 
Well, I went to grill some brats for lunch today. Turned grill on and let it warm up. Tossed on the brats and went back in my office.

Sent another email to make someone think I was earning my salary.

Went back to the grill and the temp was almost back to ambient. Opened grill. Cold.

Oh look, out of gas 🤣
 
Thanks for that link! I’ve never seen it before. But I know what’s getting ready to be at the top of the list!
It was worth every penny IMO. I can set it and go to bed. it will coast until the charcoal is gone.

That is what makes them so good. But I hear you. I’ve done that on the Egg. You need to close the lids and vents, if you leave the lid open it gets O2 and gets hotter. No way to hurry it along.

Oh you are right! The way they hold temp so steady is what makes them so great.
 
I’ve taken the leafblower to the outside of my closed smoker to help pull the temp down. The ceramic cookers hold a ton of heat so don’t know how well that would work.
