I’m looking to get a suppressor for my stribog sp9a3, I’m looking at the yhm 9k, and the omega 9. What others do you recommend and what adapters do I have to buy to to have a qd mount system to swap the suppressor between the stribog and my kriss vector. Both 9mm.

Also if this is the wrong spot for this post, sorry. I wasn’t sure where to ask about this at and I’m fairly new to suppressors. This would be my first one.

@BigWaylon

Tagged this fellow. He’s provided many of us with great info about suppressors…from the cans themselves to the process of obtaining them.

Word of warning, though. Cans are sorta like Lays potato chips…no one will have just one.

He gave me an intro to suppressors at our local range. Filed for my first one in Jan 2023 and by the end of 2023, I had three and am working on my 4th.

If I can give you any advice at all, I’d tell you if you are able to do it, don’t just file for one can your first time around. If you even think you may want to eventually supress, say a 5.56 or rimfire, go ahead and get them in the queue, as well.

I have no experience with the 9K, but I do have a YHM Turbo K and a couple YHM T3s….couldn’t be happier.

You can use 3 lug mounts to switch between host guns. You would install a 3 lug muzzle device on all the guns, a three lug mount and fixed barrel spacer for your suppressor and you should be good to go. You could also do without the three lug stuff and just use a fixed barrel spacer and thread direct to your host. As far as which one to buy I have a rugged obsidian but don't really have an opinion on it or any others. I have shot less than one mag through mine.
You would need one of these for each gun
Everything else should be able to be found here but which one you buy depends on which suppressor you end up with.

you don't NEED a QD. you can do the direct thread mounts. it's not really all that hard to thread them on and off as needed. 3lug is fun and swaps in 2 seconds instead of maybe 10. but it's tacticool!

if they both mount at the same thread pitch, try to order your suppressor with that thread pitch. otherwise you can usually buy adapters for the back end of the suppressor. things are getting pretty universal, and that means they're also getting a lot cheaper.

looks like the omega is shipping ready to be threaded on to the same 5/8" thread pitch you find on an ar10, yhm ships with the same 1/2" thread pitch you find on a 5.56 ar15. so probably both will require an you buy the upgrade 3lug adapter if you want to do QD. depending on who makes that part, prices range from ~100-150. as mentioned above hansohn brothers will take care of it

I recently took my old unloved gemtech 9mm can and bought a 3lug adapter. then i bought 3 lug mounts for my beretta cx4 that i had threaded 1/2" and for my henry 357 that i came threaded 5/8". the mounts weren't a lot, and now they both match the 3lug pattern. I'm torn on if i want to upgrade my newer 9mm can to 3lug also or just leave it as direct thread.
again, going back and forth requires only unscrewing the adapter plate at the back end of the can and putting the new one on.

Thanks everyone for the info! Whichever I get will probably end up staying on my Stribog for most of the time. So I’ll probably end up doing the direct thread after a few months of having the suppressor, but I just wanted the option to throw it on a different 9mm firearm and see how it’s like suppressed.

The main advantage of a QD has nothing to do with the “quick” part. It’s being able to use the same silencer on hosts that are threaded in different pitches without have to change anything.

If you’re just going to move it between two 9mm hosts that are both 1/2-28, that advantage is wasted. Now, most QD systems result in less of a chance of the can loosening during a range session, but there are simple ways to help with that in a direct thread setup as well.

What would help it from coming lose with a direct thread approach ? And I just mainly wanted the qd so I could use a muzzle break when not using the suppressor. I wasn’t sure if I could do direct threading with a flash hider or muzzle break and have the option to throw the suppressor on.

A lot of people swear by Rearden Mfg mounting options. Throw their adapter on the suppressor, throw their brake on the barrel/barrels. Good to go.

Teflon tape. Semi-perm thread lockers. Nail polish.

You’d have to remove can and add the FH/MB. I’ve never felt the need to have a muzzle device on a 9mm.

FWIW, I had my new Omega 9K with alpha direct thread adapter at the range yesterday on my Scorpion. Teflon gas tape held up without any issue for the adapter to barrel connection, still on there tight as a drum. Adapter to suppressor was another story... which has now been remedied using Rockset (threads were bare, not taped). I realized very quickly that once you have cans available, you're probably never going to shoot those guns again with only a muzzle device. Once you shoot with a can, you realize how incredibly obnoxious it is to shoot without one.

other than removing it to show somebody the difference, you’re correct 😁

(Assuming we’re not talking about centerfire handguns)

Shot my first suppressor today. Wow. What a serious difference. I think this is the first of many...
Shot a suppressor for the first time? Or you finally got one and was able to shoot it?

What host and can?

Finally got one, my own, shot one almost 9 months ago for the first time, ordered one a month later. I ordered a Silencer Central Banish 30 Gold, it has the QD mount, etc. I probably won't order from them again, but it seemed liked a good deal the first time around. After 7 1/2 months I got it today. It's the 30 cal can and I'm currently using it on an AR in 300blk and one in 5.56. I am now looking closely at @kcult 300blk Ruger Ranch as I'm convinced I need a bolt action in 300blk.
It's super quiet and I like the fact I can disassemble, clean, etc. After some reviews, etc. I would likely order from someone else...but I am thrilled with this one so far. Very quiet in subs and even hearing safe with supers. I love it

@BigWaylon how often do you clean yours? I've also read where some people don't use larger caliber cans on 22lr. Any thoughts on that? I don't want a baffle strike and I've heard that can happen when using 22lr on a larger caliber can. Not sure if it's true or not.
I'll likely get a 22lr can at some point in the future as well.

Thanks for any info you can pass along.

I’ve never heard anything about baffle strikes using 22LR through a larger bore can.

Clean centerfire rifle cans? Never.
Shoot 22LR through centerfire rifle cans? Never.

I occasionally open a rimfire can, knock the chunks out, and put it back together.

22LR is very dirty. Not a good thing with a sealed centerfire rifle can. You need a rimfire suppressor obviously.
His is user-serviceable. So, he’s just using one that’s way too big & heavy. And yes, he (and everybody else) needs a few rimfire cans. I think I’ve paused at an even dozen right now.

Im running a Osidian 9 from Rugged with a TriLug Mount on my GHM9K no issues and it loves 150gr subs. Their LEO/Mil pricing program is great.

Oh yeah…back to the OP.

If I were in your shoes, I’d buy a Rex MG7K 358.

And I’d run YHM Kurz (I think they have 9mm muzzle devices?) or 3-lug if you don’t want to just go DT.

Where you do see these prices? I have a military account on their site and the prices are normal MSRP to me.

Hmm I’ll prob have to contact them. I registered awhile back and joined their “paragon” program. Those guys make excellent cans, but man, their site it hot garage.

Paragon is a separate thing, I had to send in a copy of creds and then got a different link and code to use.

Yeah I’ve done both, but can’t find any discount code.
