my wife’s 58 year old single uncle has decided to retire to lake Norman because his friend recommended it. He has a boat so that could be the draw to lake Norman.
Any pros/cons that y’all would care to share and any other locations he should consider?

gracias de antemano

Now that we have sorta open carry in SC, there's no real reason anyone should move to NC.
Maybe SC is an option as long as he stays away from me ;)
Will see how it goes, he is joining us for thanksgiving.

Expensive as in $$$ and likely snobbish. The surrounding areas have become crowded because people heard how good it was and moved there. If being near a lake is a consideration, consider one of the other lakes.

Retiring at 58, maybe he’d fit in at Lake Norman. If he wants a lake with a country club air about it and can afford it no reason not to do lake Norman. If he wants a quieter sportsman or relaxing lake then it’s about the last choice in NC or SC.

Not to say there aren’t sportsman using lake Norman, but they’re not usually living on it.
If it gives you any perspective, the company I work for has a Marine division. Based in Italy for yachts, a US location near Miami and they have a remote sales/support guy living at Lake Norman.

LN is an expensive area, pretty, but expensive. That would be my downside

Where is he moving from? That's the question.

That will determine if we want him near us.
Chicago. Be careful though, my wife was born in Chicago too 😅

This dude says he has $$$, I personally don’t believe him. Will see when he starts choking on $400k houses

Lake Wylie is south of Charlotte and more affordable (so far) versus LN. Nice, newer communities have been built up there.
Right, I live in Lake Wylie and I will strongly discourage him moving to LKW

He's from up north. A 400k house won't shock him.

If he needs a realtor, I've got someone. She does SC and NC.
