So, been looking for a dirt/trail bike for a few months and came across a nice fixer-upper in SC. I'm in NC.

Long story short, dude is interested in one of my rifles that I'm not really interested in any longer. I know that selling to an individual in SC from NC, I would need to ship a long gun to a FFL.

But, what if I'm physically driving to SC from NC to make the trade, which is still a "transaction" or a "transfer", but not an "out of state" sale.

I've searched and searched all the web, and can't find a definitive answer to this. Any help is much appreciated.

It's still changing hands between people who live in different states, so an FFL is required. You can deliver the rifle in person the the FFL as long as he's ok with that. Confirm with a phone call to the guy you plan to use.

Just arrange to meet the guy at a gun shop in SC and you should be good to go. I'd call the gun shop first just so you'll know ahead of time if they have any issues or special requirements and what their fee is.

Thanks @Flashpoint. I think I’m just going to buy the bike and sell the rifle locally. I plan on going down there tonight after work and by the time I make it down there won’t be any shops open.
