I was TACON'd to them in central Africa, just before I retired. Shit place to be, but good dudes to work & party with. 2 weeks after I went home, the rebels overran the capital & they (& the Marine security detail) got the pleasure of evacing the the Embassy staff & other AMCITs to the French Foreign Legion base outside of town.

That's awesome. I did an exchange with the Royal Marine Commandos and peripherally the SBS. I didn't get much in the way of their kayaks, but those guys were serious about kayaking.

Worked with some Royal Marine Commandos in Iraq. They were really cool towards us til an American made a Princess “Die”-ana type of joke. Then there was a turd in the punch bowl after that.

Yeah, that's no bueno. The queen, the prince, the rest of those royal people are fair game, but the Limies still love them some Princess Di. If you do an exchange with them there is definitely brotherhood and semper fi and all that, but to be one of them you have to do the commando portion of their training, and then the bond is almost mafia-like, as in 'blood brothers for life.'

My father WWII boot camp.

I wish I could find the pictures of my grandfathers from WWI and 1915. One was in the trenches in Europe. My other grandfather was in the cavalry and was down in Texas in 1915 due to a skirmish that was going on with Mexico at the time.

This is just a small portion of a massive trash dump thing between Baghdad and Taji off Route Tampa where people lived / scavenged for food and usable items to sell. The puddles were stagnant and polluted but we always saw animals and people drinking it. The trash spontaneously caught fire so when your patrol was in the vicinity of it, you would often get the smoke clouds engulfing you, which led to the inhalation of whatever chemicals and other junk was burning.

Me, On the way to and in, Afghanistan. I’m the one in the middle with the pistol. The guy on my right with the SAW actually became a big shot lawyer and is a partner sr a larger firm in Boston. The two dudes on my left continued down their path and are full blown drug addicts now.

Black water bridge in Fallujah, Iraq. It’s the bridge that they hung and burned the bodies of those contractors back in 2004. I lived and patrolled daily that sector of the city for about 7 months. The other pic is me after a raid we had just conducted in the city.

Good friend of mine dunking the Seargent Major on Bahgram airbase Afghanistan. We had great times on that deployment. Unfortunately a year later when we were in Iraq he was shot in the head by a sniper and killed.

RIP Josh. I Miss you brother.

In 2004 my unit did security for the inauguration of Kharzi and we lived in his palace that was still under construction. This is me enjoying his bathtub

A camel spider. I had doused him in lighter fluid and torched him so he is a bit shriveled up, but make no mistake... those things are huge.

I don't like spiders, but I don't freak out over them. I hate scorpions, though. That bastard is a mash-up of the two, and I hate them so much.

This is a cousin that was a B17 pilot during WWII who was KIA over Germany in 1944. His brother was a navigator, and was also KIA. The portrait was in my Aunt's house for years, and when she passed away I was the only one who showed any interest in keeping it in the family.

Another Sinai picture-- we won the 'Force Skills' competition for the MFO competing against 12 or 14 other nations' teams. Yup- that's a Brit in the middle; he was an exchange officer and our Battalion S3. Dude could run like a deer; I am on his immediate right.

I'm checking on the boys in PZ posture waiting on aircraft for a night CALFEX sometime around April 2001 in Grafenwohr Germany-- I was with the 173rd Airborne Brigade at the time.

Doing jumpmaster duties over Bunker Drop Zone in Germany, probably 2002 or 2003.

Spent four weeks in the Ukraine training with their airborne brigade back in the summer of 2001; here I'm about to rip off a few rounds with an AGS-17 grenade launcher. Yeah, no hearing protection was a mistake that day. Got to jump with those maniacs out of their aircraft...good times.

Second trip to Iraq in '07; we moved around a lot that pump. But I did bump into this particular kid often enough that we had a good relationship as he spoke pretty good English (I brought him the comic book on the chair) and he functioned as a terp for unimportant matters from time-to-time. I do wonder what happened to him as this was in an area that eventually was overrun by ISIS/ISIL years later.
