Have not shot the 45-70 in 6 or 7 months and then it was only 100 yards.
Today I met a friend at the 500-yard range to see if I could hit any steel. The black steel was 300-yards and I was aiming at the steel plate behind it at 500-yards. We figured the drop was about 65". Took 8 rounds before I started hitting the plate.
Next, we stepped out to the 500-yard steel. The berm is about 20 feet high behind the plate. I was using a Burris 3 x 9 scope with plain crosshairs. I started out with the horizontal crosshair on top of the berm and was hitting about 40 feet short. I raised the scope to where the horizontal crosshair was about 3/4 of the way down on top of the berm. Managed a hit on my last shot. We are figuring about a 25-foot drop.

I was shooting a 405 grn Missouri SWC above some 32.0 grns of Shooter's World Buffalo Rifle powder.

The last picture is from the 500-yard steel looking back at the shooting benches.

I have a Browning lever action with gold scrolling on both sides. It’s never been out of the box in about 25 years. Always wondered what it might be like to shoot it. Think they made 3000. Another safe queen.
