Range report, 7-9-19

You’ll see a pretty large percentage in your squad shooting 1911’s Saturday. They are a bunch of old school guys from Buccaneer Gun Club in Wilmington. And they’ll be shooting nice ones.

That said, the rest of the squads you’ll see nearly no 1911’s, besides me.
So I'll see some drool-worthy guns, and mine will be sitting home......sad. But I'm always happy to look at some nice 1911s.....LOL. Or I can shoot the .45 1911......

I'm not saying any of this is tragic, just a pain in the butt. It was a failure in that it failed to feed a round. Not a lot of other ways to say that one! LOL.

I just think if I buy a gun it should work after I send it to get fixed. Maybe I'm asking too much. Who knows. I'll send it back (again) once I hear from the RIA girl.

In the meantime, I'll keep trying with the other 1911, the .45. It's only had a couple of small issues, and I'll be shooting it in a couple of days. Not really sure what more I can do.

As for the Glock....yes, I'm sticking to it for carrying and matches. lol.

My point is if you want to be a 1911 shooter this is part of the process. It happens in $500 guns up to $3000+ guns. If you are committed to the platform you learn to run the gun and fix the gun. If you can’t do that then 1911s are not for you

I can barely clean the gun, how am I going to fix the gun....lol. But I get the point, and I still want to have a couple of 1911s among my guns. You have to admit, I seem to have a lot of problems with them, though.

Sounds to me like it's a shooter error. If it ran perfectly Sunday with different weight bullets ,different mags, and different shooters and you gave up on it because you had a failure to feed. Really? That could have been caused by you and the way you hold it. You maybe loosening your grip before the gun cycles . Maybe the last round fired was a low powder charge and the slide did not go far enough back to pick up another round to feed. Maybe you limp wristed it. . Hell I think every guy on this site has had failure to feeds before. You gave up and quit without trying it again. Quitters make lousey shooters and won't learn a darn thing except give up when it does not work for you..The best way is to learn by mistakes and don't always assume it's the gun..as forest Gump said,Thats all I have to say about that.,.......

Ok. Thanks for the input and the encouragement. I'm sure you know more about this stuff than I do. I'm sure you're absolutely correct.

I think I've learned a lot about shooting and guns in the 56 years that I have been shooting. Part of what I learned was by doing and most by listening to people that knew what they were talking about.

I'm listening to everyone. I'm doing what I can do. Again, thanks.

Why don't you come and watch me shoot, then tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'd be happy for the input from a more experienced shooter.

In fact, I'm still shooting the RIA, and used it in a match recently, and sometimes it does well, and sometimes not.

If you're saying I'm a quitter, didn't your mom ever tell you if you can't say anything nice, not to say anything at all? How is calling me things helping anything?

Maybe you just had a bad day that particular day, like I did. Maybe you need to come to the range and see if I'm doing something to cause some of these issues. I think that would be more helpful than telling me I'm a quitter/lousy shooter, right?

If you don't want to come to my range, I'll come to yours. Let me know what you think.

Just trying to get your motor running.Get you thinking about what you are doing. Concentrate on every shot
Slow down and make every shot like it's the only shot you have to SAVE YOUR LIFE. You have had some extensive training from some experienced trainers .Try to remember what they told you and put it to work for you. Are you using the same ammo every time . Do you lubricate you guns the same the day you go to the range. Do you follow thru with every shot. .I was taught to follow thru the shot .Don't quit the shot till the bullet hits the target . That's what I meant by being a quitter.Try and use the same ammo each time .when you find ammo that the gun works with stick with it. Dont buy ammo just because it's cheap. Guns can and are funniky about ammo. For example. I had a Beretta 92 fs that when I loaded it with 115 grain ammo at 25 yards it was a chore to keep them in side of the 8 ring on a b27 target. Then I tried some 124 grain nato ammo and I could put most of them in the 9 and 10 ring. You don't need someone to watch you just do exactly what you learned at Battery Oaks and use the knowledge that you were given.Every shot you takeshould be a training lesson. Don't go to the range and shoot 200 round at a time When I started practicing I watched every shot anallizing it trying to see if I did what I needed to do to put that bullet where I wanted it to go. I would rarely shoot more than 50 to 75 rounds in an hour. I've heard you say you shots 5 boxes in an hour. Doing that is a waste of time and money . Remember stance, grip, sight alignment ,and trigger press. Pull all that together on EVERY SHOT,then you might make a better shooter

Way to go, Mr. Negativity! LOL. That was a great shooting day for me. I was relaxed and shooting well. It was fun! You do remember fun, don't you? Shooting is still fun for me, so sometimes I shoot a lot, and I think it was actually 6 boxes that day.
Next you'll say I'm not supposed to be having fun with my shooting!! Holy cow.....I can't win here....lol.

You don't take constructive criticism very well at all. I can see why people loose their patience with you. I was being honest trying to help. Everything I said went right over your head. I'm done

The answers are written in many a topic, you just added to it. One must have eyes open to see the light in a dark tunnel. Some assume the light is a incoming train, mind the gap and all will be fine.

:)

Ok. Thanks for the help.

Thanks also.

I read your original reply and thought you were being an ass also. If you want to give constructive criticism it might help to re-read a time or two before posting to make sure it comes across as constructive...I don't always type my thoughts perfectly the first time or even the second...ask gc70. Put yourself in her shoes, she is dealing with a problem and there is a parade of faceless web people throwing darts and half of them don't have a clue what they are talking about either...I have lost count of the stupid (yes stupid) suggestions I have read in Millie threads. I'd say the last thing she is is a quitter and I am glad I didn't have to do all of my learning in some web forum.

That is my constructive criticism. I hope some find value in it and know others will not...I will not lose any sleep either way.

All the best!

You're awesome! Lol.

I think the drama might pretty much be over....but you never really know with this bunch, do you? LoL.
Look. It’s true that you might be a little crazy. But it’s a good crazy.

Any woman who takes up pistol shooting at my age, in earnest, as you have, and not only pistols, but 1911’s, and not only 1911’s, but 1911’s in 9mm, and not only 1911’s in 9mm, but 1911’s in 9mm shot in matches all over the hinterlands of eastern North Carolina...

Like I said. It’s crazy, but a good crazy.

You're sweet!
I never said I was sane, after all, did I? Yeah, I'm a little nutso, but I'm sometimes interesting to be around....lol....see you at a match, you never know when!
