....It is full of political intrigue, jockeying for power, lies, manipulation, betrayal, savage hatred, grudges, insurrections, unbridled ambition, men seeking God... and then abandoning him, humility and arrogance side by side, causes of good and evil both in opposite "sides", spectacular moral failures alongside touching tenderness and humility, men of war and unspeakable savagery who periodically call out to God so that His mercy blazes out, yet men and women are still base, twisted, perverted, unholy and well..., just BAD.

My first thought is, how unfortunate that the biblical "heroes" are treated as though they were some case study in goodness by many Christian teachers. What a crock of manure!! They weren't heroes. They were screwed up, dysfunctional, horrible failures, whom God stepped in and BEGAN to change.

My second thought is..... It is fascinating. Gee... I only wish it were relevant to today........ (wink)

God, give me the grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.

Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Amen.

You just described me. But I thank God that I am not the man I used to be. He has broken me and continues to break me and change me daily.
