Real ID

we got our Real ID's last year. no lines, no wait.
the lady taking my picture told me an INAPPROPRIATE joke
so i laughed and she snapped. that's my why i look that way.

Pretty sure NC is good to go when you get a new one or renew??? SC (along with just a few other states) has been farting around for over a decade on this RealID issue now and still not sure they’ve got it figured out. You can use a passport to fly without a realID.

Recently saw where the wait to get the updated NC drivers license at the Asheville DMV is averaging 7 hours. Naw, I'll be renewing online.

You can renew, without receiving a "real ID" license (with the star on it). To get a "real ID" you have to take all sorts of paperwork, stuff with full SSN, two things (utility bills, tax bills, etc.) with your address.

Sounds like a pain but at least you’ve got the option...SC draggin butt as usual!

I had to renew my licence last December and decided to get the Real ID. It was not a lot of work. Here are the documents https://www.ncdot.gov/dmv/driver/realid/requireddocuments.html

As far as the DMV call the number and set up an appointment. I was in and out in 8 minutes... no joke 8 minutes and 2 of that was waiting for the next available person. You get the next available person when your appointment time arrives. You skip all the other people waiting in line no matter how long they have been waiting.

I got a real ID over Christmas break. The wife and I decided it would be easier since we were planning on air travel. The first guidelines were for it to be implemented in 2018 but they backtracked on it.

I just did mine. Called and made an appointment. Was about 3 weeks out. Appointment at 3PM, arrived 256PM, out the door at 311PM. Done. Got it in the mail ~1 week later.

I'm just sticking with my passport... I also have a passport card which is good anywhere in North America. I checked with TSA and it's good to go as well.

All bets are off when dealing with the mental midgets the TSA hires. I saw where an agent wouldn't accept a mans District of Columbia drivers license because "it was not from a state in the US".

I mean, I have had my issues with the TSA and am by no means a fan, but the passport is THE premier travel ID worldwide at all airports and checkpoints...

3 years ago when I got my SC driver’s license I took my passport, I do not recall if they entered the passport #. Couple of months ago, I applied online for realID and got it a week or so later. No DMV visit.

I had to add my middle name to the social security card to get the Real ID NC driver license.

I can’t remember which piece of ID the examiner had a problem with but I had it needed to be local, state or federal issued ... I got pissed and pulled out my CHP since it is pretty much a state & locally approved document. She asked the supervisor who basically laughed at her and said it doesn’t get better than that. The examiner’s attitude did a 180° change and she had me out 5 minutes later. Someone’s I wonder what kind of hiring screening they do ...
