What's wrong with laminated? Who expects a paper card to last very long unlaminated?

Mines been laminated since 1973, but I have other documents with my social security number on it since I don’t think they will honor that one.

Why would you get a REAL ID if a passport works? WHy not just get the passport? makes more sense than giving them yet another way to find you.

Gotta renew the passport every ten years I believe. NCDL can be renewed on-line, plus I am not leaving the country.

Ever again.

Nightmare for my wife of 37yrs. Her last name didnt match on her 3 documents
She had to get another apptmt date and time and get her last name changed on 1 doc in the mean time. Real ID is stoopid because they will just be faked like every other form of ID.

My wife signed me and my kids up for that passport card when we renewed our passports.
I also don't plan on getting this real ID thing till the next renewal.

Is that Global Entry card similar to TSA Pre-check, but for international flights?

Global Entry gives you an option to go to a different/special line for customs coming back into the US, sometimes the special line is faster, sometimes slower. I understand that it can really speed things up coming in by land.

One thing to add, I tried to use my global entry card at an automated checkin kiosk, there was no way, had to use my passport. So, for now I travel with my passport which isn’t a big deal.

One complication, my name is different on my DL and Passport and I dread having to tell the government that they screwed up because I’m the one that’s gonna have to suffer through the fix!

Dumb question, after October 2020 are all NC DL’s going to be issued (new or renewal) as Real ID’s? I know you are not required to now but with it being driven by the federal Real ID Act back in 2005 (yes, this thing started 15 years ago) will the states just move on to require the same stuff then just in case like the 55mph speed limit and seat belt law the Feds decide to penalize non-conformity?

No, it will still be an option.

That could very well be the best definition of bureaucracy I've read.
