I've got an early 2000 era AICS 1.0 chassis on my rem700, and 'refreshed' it with some viper skins a few years back but it's still heavy and clunky for what it does.

I know there are dozens of chassis systems for the rem700 SA, but which are the best on the lower end of things? Still want AICS mag compatibility, but otherwise I just need it to provide a solid action mount without requiring bedding and a way to stick a bipod on there.

Tagged for interest. I’ve been looking at the MDT systems. They are not cheap, but I am lol. So I haven’t been able to make myself pull the trigger yet.

Keep an eye on fore end length on some of the lower priced options. They can be prohibitive when it comes to bipod use/placement. That's why I'd recommend the MDT over something like the KRG Bravo.

I run KRG Bravo's on all my Rem700 pattern rifles. To me it feels more like you are shooting a traditional stock rather than a chassis. In my experience bipod placement is not an issue on the Bravo with either stud type (Harris) or pic rail (Atlas) style bipods. Spigot and Arca bipod types will require additional hardware.

I am torn between the more traditional 'one piece' style like that vs. the stripped down stuff that you add AR furniture to. The AR furniture route costs more generally (not putting a bottom of the barrel magpul on there after all) but might allow for things to 'keep current' as styles change. Not that style is the end all be all but after 20 years the AICS 1.0 is kinda... dated.

Any particular reason you don’t like AICS magazines?

Yeah the AICS 1.0 chassis is quite dated at this point in time. So with the KRG the fore end does have M-Lok compatible slots on the side and they do offer NV bridges as well as a more advanced forends if you wanted to go all out to "keep current", at a $$$ though.

I have this contraption currently on my .300 BLK rifle until I decide I "really need" the above forend with NV bridge and lots of M-Lok.

X2 on the KRG chassis. I absolutely love mine. It’s amazing how much it changed the accuracy over the factory stock.

I’ve been researching this pretty hard myself, and I’m about to pull the trigger on a bravo chassis myself. Glad to see the positive feedback.

Might buy used till you figure out what you like I picked up a used christens arms one for half what the sell for on Rokslide lot of guys over there swapping or upgrading

My AICS was used when i got it, passed through two other people that I know of before I ended up with it. They don't go bad, that's for sure.

Pick up one of these used. AICS AT-X🤡
Folder hinge and upper rail aren’t typical on a used one, but can be added. Nothing with AICS stamped on it is cheap, but the quality is always baked in.

I have built a lot of 700s and 700 clones. The most popular stock/chassis is the krg bravo. I have built rifles using the bravo for hunting, prs, and smokless smoke poles. It's not the prettiest thing out there but it's solid and does the job.

To me they are a "bastard" or "do all" chassis. It's too light to use for a primary PRS set up but you can buy the aluminum forend for them with a built in arca rail. It's a little heavier than a typical hunting stock. It has m lok capabilities if you are into that type of stuff. And it resembles and kinda feels like a stock for the guys who hate a chassis but it has a big one piece aluminum c channel as a backbone in the middle. Did I confuse you yet?

I have a bravo in the shop that I keep there to test customers rifles. Whenever a customer brings me a rifle that they say won't shoot, I bolt it in the bravo to see if it's a bedding problem or something else.

I'm starting to see a common thread.

Next up I need to decide what I'm going to use the rifle for going forward. That's what's stalled out the project so far, I don't have a use case for it anymore and I'm trying to find inspiration in the equipment.
