Anyone have any recommendations for getting a tach rebuilt?

Rebuilding because of nostalgia reasons

Mechanical

I always wanted to ask that question. I can't help. 😛

Seriously though, I had a Triumph Spitfire that had a mechanical tach. It was easy to take apart and replace the glass and dial face. Other than that the internals used a cup attached to the distributor cable to move the meter. In the cup was a flat disk attached to the meter. Both were separated by an air gap.

The air between the two made the needle move. The faster the distributor cup spun the more air moved the disk. Adjustment was by spring tension holding the needle towards zero.

Anyway, that's how it was done before electronics.
