Good day everyone,
New on the site here. I delve in small personal firearm repairs and mods but have a personal project I don’t want to take on and am looking for a knowledgable barrel smith. This in particular involves a .55 (13.9x99mm) Boys barrel (removed) that has heavy pitting in the chamber. Looking for someone that can ream and headspace or rechamber the barrel. The bore is in good shape.

I had this with a shop for a few months and I assume they were afraid to take it on as they were recommending polishing only.

I have not ventured too far from the upstate but thanks for the links. Will get in touch with bolt and barrel.

Rechamber as in set back but keep same cartridge ? [That way the bolt face doesn't need any modification.]

Biggest hurdle is finding the go/no go gauges and chamber reamer for oddball calibers, basic bbl setback is pretty straightforward for any competent shop.

No gunsmith shop is going to have tooling for this caliber.
You are most likely going to have to have chamber reamers and gages made for this caliber.
A roughing reamer, a finish reamer and a set of go - no go gages.
Manson Reamers should be able to help you out with a quote on the proper tooling.

Ive seen the reamers for sale, wondering if any gunsmiths already have procured them already. Will have to call around. I already made go/ng gauges on cnc lathe.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Rechamber meaning hog out the existing chamber, plug it with a blank, drill and ream new chamber to same size. Definately not the best option and risks having new chamber eccentric to bore. The case is a .50 BMG expanded to .55.

I have read many articles about resurfacing the chamber but dissimilar materials or fillers in the chamber isn’t the way I want to go. The shop I discussed with before was puzzled that I didnt just want the chamber polished out…and why it wouldn’t work perfectly! 🫤
