I've picked up a Ruger break down 10/22 and a Magpul Backpacker stock. I am thinking I need a compact red/green dot optic so that I can get this think into play rapidly. Don't want to spend a ton of money but I do want something that I can trust that is accurate. Suggestions?

If you are wanting a micro I can highly recommend the Burris FF iii. I have 2 of the #3s and 1 of the #2. Love them. Very tough ( one got thrown 30yds on concrete and was perfectly fine besides a small scratch). You can find them for $175 - $200.

I hope to get my PA micro dot to the range next week. For the money it looks and feels nice. Just gotta go shoot it a little. I like my Aimpoint so that is the standard I have for red dots. We'll see how I feel after shooting with it.

Define Ton of Money.....

A Vortex Viper on an AD-22 QD mount on the forward picatinny base for the backpacker makes a nice option that is removable and returns to zero.

I like the QD mount for a serious application backpack model. I may add a QD mount when my budget expands. For now I'm just going to carry a tool to remove the red dot. It's a 22lr so I hope it isn't a time sensitive shootout when it goes bad!

I like the Vortex Venom or Viper red dot for a more expensive option. The primary arms RBG-II or Bushnell trs-25 are great for under $100.

Not much more than I've got in the rifle; say less than $300.

I really like the looks of that, but I don't know anything about them. I want something that isn't very bulky and that one fills that bill.

I'm thinking that this is going to be a supplemental BOG. Or it may be the main if I put a can on it.

Venom has a smaller dot and a little slimmer than the Viper. Both are great but the Venom is my favorite. Also the vipers battery is mounted on the bottom against the mount so you lose zero every time you change your battery. The Venoms is on the top.

Main difference between the Venom and the Viper?
Sight window on the venom is larger.
Battery is in the top of the venom, I believe is under the sight on the viper.
Both now come in either 3moa or 6moa.
Don't forget you also have the "mack daddy" Razor but it's more then a stock 10-22 cost, but I have quite a few Razors and 2 venoms. I love them!

Thanks guys! I think I see a Venom with an AD 22 mount in my future.

Now I just need to get a can for it....
