Red dot positioning

I keep seeing folks say not to mount it far back on the receiver but they never say why.

Move the rear sight back to be even with the upper. "the angle bit should be flush with the uppers end" This brings the rear peep sight to the right distance to your eye.

the optic, I like the front lens to be even with the uppers forward edge, kind of like this image.

Yep, just as Jon mentioned, push the red dot as far forward on the recoever as possible without putting it on the rail.

The cross bolt for the rear sight should then be on the rearmost pic slot.

Had red dots on all my ARs. All mounted all the way forward on the upper receiver like has been mentioned several times…with MBUS on most (all but one?).

Recently swapped to prisms on quite a few, and had to ditch the rear MBUS since they have to be mounted much further back. Ditched the front MBUS as well as it was pretty useless…especially with the etched reticles.
