Looking at a 2014 gmc sierra 1500 sle, 4wd... 68k miles, $25,000

Anyone have exp. with the newer trucks, how do the interiors hold up? We are going to keep whatever truck we get, FOR A WHILE... so whatever I get, i'd like it to last. I know the 5.3's are good to go.

Best truck for the money, seems to be nissan frontiers, I've found plenty of 2018's for under 25k.. with hardly any miles but I would prefer a full size. Just tough to do for 25k or less.

The 5.3 with the AFM has issues.

I just fixed 2 A 2012 and a 2014 with a cam lifters and reprogrammed computer. To the tune of $2800

Both with less than 100k

Besides the 2 I know of at least 10 others that were fixed elsewhere

As far as I know even the 5.3 as late as '16 still had issues

I’m sorry but if you have to repair any vehicle under a 100,000 miles to the tune of 2,800 dollars that vehicle is a piece of S**t! There are a few car makers that have this happen repeatedly too, they make crap and won’t buy from them. Fool me once type thing.

I’ve got a 2015 Silverado. Basically same truck. I bought it last October with 25,000 on it, it’s now got 45,000 on it. Haven’t had an issue yet. I do plan to buy the device to drop AFM in mine.

I just did cam, lifters etc also. I've done about 2 dozen of them. No kidding. Including mine in my old truck.

I believe if the AFM was deleted within the first 10k miles or so they would be ok.

I did one back in 2012 that was a 2010 model with 85k on it. Had been deleted at 50k. but by that time the damage was already started. 35k tobfinish the lobes on the can is just ridiculous

You guys are scaring me lol. Makes me wanna go trade it for a yota

I wouldn't pay that for a 5 year old GMC but I'm a Toyota guy. I have a 2019 Tacoma that replaced a 2012 Tundra. Also bought my previous 2006 Tacoma back for my sons first vehicle. It has 350k miles on it and I would drive it anywhere. Also have a beater 94 toyota T100 that gets driven around 500 miles a year, mostly people borrowing it. Cranks up every time and has never let me down, even after sitting for months.

This right here If I had the cash it would be sitting in my garage right now

I recently got a 2018 LTZ Z71 with the 6.2l max tow package and I love it. Had my 06 Z71 for almost 12 years. Only other truck my family has owned was a few Ford's over the years. Both have given good service.

I looked really hard at the Toyota Tundra XP ,but my wife was just not happy with them for some reason. Even though she's got a Camry.

For what it is worth, I have 2010 5.3 with AFM and 110k. No issues with mine. It has made it this far, going to leave the lifters alone.

Is the dash cracked up? If it's not, it will be at some point.

There's widespread problems with the crappy materials they used. Folks tried to start a class action against GM for a recall but got nowhere.

I’m gonna get cussed at right now. All of our company fleet trucks are Chevys. All 6 cycle or Diesel. I get a new one about every 3 years or around 200k. They all seem bulletproof, but every Chevy product I have owned personally has been POS. Only foreign or Ford for me. Chevy make great looking vehicles, only a notch about Dodge in quality and dependability IMO

I will pass on the GM. I’m not a huge ford fan. I’ve had and still do plenty of crown Vic’s and currently sport a grand marquis. The interior is cheap, but those cars will go forever and I can work on it. Got my 06 Marquis, 1 owner, leather seats with 56k miles for $6000 at a dealer.

Stopped and looked at a frontier up close today. It’s on the small side but a lot better than the civic we have. I will test drive it tomorrow and if it doesn’t sway me over, I’ll just keep looking for a 05-06 tundra

My company provided work truck is a 2015 Chevy 1500 2wd with the v6. It has 120k miles. No issues yet. 22ish mpg.

I frickin love my chevy 1500 with the 5.3l . I wouldn't hesitate to buy another in a second. I also have turned wrenches for 32 years now. I wouldn't buy anything besides a Chevy GMC or Toyota. All brands have there issues no doubt but most of my money comes from working on Mopars Fords Nissian BMW VW and Mercedes in that order.

I have the GMC 2010 with the 6.2 and tow package and it's a great truck. What's not to like about 410 HP? :)

I've been driving a frontier for 2 years now. I've got a crew cab 4x2 with the V6 and automatic. I really like it. Hauls dogs, people, or a load of firewood without any issues. Comfortable ride. I like the simple layout of the interior, but I know some folks want all the bells and whistles. Will tow a boat or ATV trailer just fine.

I've driven it to Florida 3 times, PA once, and a few trips to the mountains/beach. Its been comfortable on each trip, and I get mid 20's mpg.

My only complaint is the turning radius on it isn't very tight, so parking garages can be a pain unless you prefer to back in.

I’ve read that about the turning radius. My biggest beef with the truck is the 5’ bed. But the full size trucks that are crew can only have 5.5” beds on most.

I’d love a full size but under 26k, hard to find a crew cab 4x4. I like the frontiers a lot but my wife keeps barking “get a real truck” lol

Plus, I’m looking at the pro4x, can’t find a damn single 1 that still have the strap hooks in the bed utili track system. Grrrr

Frontiers have terrible turning radius, but I've got 113K on my '07 crew cab, long bed, 2wd since new & the only issue I've had was replacing a power window regulator & window switch at 105K or so. Had to put a new clutch in it at 95K, but consider that maintenance. Runs & rides like new & I am NOT easy on it.

I've got the 6spd manual & it runs like a completely different truck. Only available in the crew cabs now, though. Same experience as @RedneckFur as far as ride, towing & fuel economy. Driven to KS & back half a dozen times. I average low to mid 20's on the highway & 18-19mpg in town.

It’s a shame they never stuck a 6 speed auto in these to help with MPG. IMO, they get ok but there’s a lot bigger trucks that get the same or better. But I just take it as a trade off for the simplicity and reliability of the truck.
I’m talking with a dealer in Greensboro currently with a 2018 crew cab pro4x, certified, 17k miles but they’re wanting $28,000. I’m assuming price is up because it’s certified. If I can get them to 26 or so out the door, I’ll probably take it.

They're good trucks & basically unchanged since '05. That 4.0's a great motor & perfect for this size truck. They flat boogie with the 6spd manual & 3.70 rear end.

yeah I'd buy a Titan over any of these. And they're relatively affordable used compared to their competition. And the Cummins option in the HD performs exactly like a diesel should.

Friend just scrapped an 05 Frontier because it needed a new engine. Less than 200k miles and he bought it new. Had a warranty engine installed around 50k and he had to replace the transmission at 125k. He was done with it and got $300 from the scrap yard to come pick it up at the mechanic. Maybe he got a lemon but I know several people that have had issues with the Frontiers. I mentioned already my good luck with Toyota's but know they have problems occasionally also.

Yeah sounds like a lemon. I know stories like that with a lot of cars. Some will run forever. Some won’t. Guess it’s whoever felt like doing their job right that day at the plant. My coworker had a 2004 Camry she bought new and the motor had to be replaced at 60k miles. Forgot the reason she said but Toyota covered it and because of that, she won’t own another yota.
