Greetings all! I'm the North Carolina State Coordinator for Project Appleseed, an apolitical rifle marksmanship training program that focuses on teaching traditional rifle marksmanship from standing, sitting/kneeling, and prone positions. It is one of the major activities of the Revolutionary War Veterans Association (RWVA), a 501(c)(3) organization that teaches both marksmanship and American heritage with the intent to encourage Americans to get off the couch and be involved civically in their communities, the State and nationally.

Below is the current schedule for the remaining events in NC through the end of the year. Additionally, and event is being added to the schedule for the weekend of November 11th and 12th in Wilmington.

Please visit appleseedinfo.org for more information and to register for an event. Additionally, you can reach me here or via email ([email protected]) with any questions you may have. My handle on the Appleseed Forum is the same as here.

Hope to see you soon on the firing line!

For anyone that hasn't done an Appleseed shoot, I highly highly recommend it. 2 days well spent and very appropriate for responsible children. Lots of fun, lots of trigger time, lots of good marksmanship teaching, and you will leave a better rifleman with the knowledge to improve further on your own.

Plus some well told history from April 19, 1775 during breaks.

This is _the_ best training bargain out there, especially since you can learn it all with a 22.

I have wanted to attend one of these events for years now, just haven't had the time when they were here in Charlotte.
Plus I still haven't got my tech sights installed on the 10/22 I bought years ago!

I should just clear the schedule for that first weekend in December!

If you do it in Ramseur, a night at a local hotel is pretty cheap. If you shoot close to rifleman at 25 yards (reduced size targets) you can usually shoot 100/200/300/400 the second afternoon if you want to. Don't know whether Charlotte does that.

I usually instruct in Charlotte as it's just 50 minutes away. You most certainly should find a weekend that works and come on out. We'd love to have you on the line.

I will have the 2018 calendar for the State worked out by the end of the month. Ramseur has a weekend every month, one of which is usually a Known Distance (100-500 yd) weekend. Charlotte normally holds 5 weekends a year, though we're working with CRPC to try and expand to 6 at some point. We're also looking to expand venues in the coming year, and I hope to host a couple events west of Charlotte and a couple east of Raleigh. I'd love to get a few Winterseeds in Boone.

I think the Charlotte range only goes to 300, but I'm not a member there and have never shot there.

Typically in Charlotte the club assigns us to the pistol range, which is .22 rimfire only.

That said, we had enough instructors last month that those with center fire rifles were able to get some known distance shooting in. If it's something you want to work into a weekend in Charlotte, just let me know and I can give the Shoot Boss a heads up so we can try and work out use of the KD range with the club.

In Ramseur, anyone who shoots a Rifleman's score (minimum of 210 of a max 250 puts on the AQT) gets to go to the KD range in site. And that range is majestic and fun to shoot on.....

Appleseed won’t allow 15-22’s right? All my other rifles have scopes.

Is it a 25 yard pistol range? I may actually be able to hit the target then!
Seriously I will hopefully have had better luck with this new optometrist by then.

I did notice the Appleseed banner wasn't loading on the CRPC-Appleseed page.

That’s correct

I didn’t shoot the 25yd course or have a Riflemans patch, but I signed up for the KD course just the same.

Nailed it! Used my 3x ACOG and 69gr SMKs

Camping on site is the way to go. There was a shower with warm water, some folks made some awesome chili and stew Saturday night, campfires and BSing. It was great. @BurnedOutGeek kept saying he was stopping by but he didnt

I’d love to shoot a CFF event or just come camp and help out

There is currently some safety issues with 15-22s that S&W is working with Project Appleseed to resolve.

That said, many shooters use scopes. What we teach can be shot wife glass, Irons, and even red dots.

If you're heart is set on shooting it with Irons, we can arrange to have a loaner rifle set up with TechSights. These are usually instructor's personal rifles that we bring to ensure anyone can participate- even those w/o their own rifle.

It's a 50 yard range, but everything we teach we do at 25yds.

And it's amazing how easily it translates at real distances. I was tickled pink the first time I shot a pop-up at 480 yards with irons on an M1A.

Having a WEB sling and really learning natural point of aim shows you can do amazing things from the prone unsupported.

Even with the suppressor hanging off the end of my rifle I shot really well

A CFF camp out and shoot would be awesome!

quick question. I have a couple of tech sight ruger 10 22 for me and my wife, but we have no slings for them. Your best advice on where to buy and what to buy for them?

A regular USGI web sling is ideal. They can be had at the Appleseed store as @Patrick said; they can usually be found at gun shows as well.

I've heard of instructors finding a bunch in the sling box at pawn shops for a couple bucks each.

My own trolling of pawn shops has proven fruitless.

One thing you'll also need is 1 1/4" sling swivels - Uncle Mike's makes a great set that are quick disconnect that make getting ready with a loop sling significantly easier and faster.

I got my TSR200 tech sights installed last night. Hopefully I will get time to check them out at the local 25 yard indoor range this week. My first time removing and installing sights, wonder how far off they will be! ;)

I have a sling I bought several years ago for this 10/22. I believe it was a recommended one at the time. I have no information on it though, other than it says Allen and made in china. I think it is a USGI loop sling.

Green cotton, 1 1/4" wide, looks like this?

I've seen a few of those slings on the line from time to time, and will certainly work for the hasty sling position....

.....as well as hasty hasty, which is a quicker variation of the hasty sling.

If memory serves, using one as a loop sling is problematic due to it not having the proper buckle from which the "loop" is made and placed on the support arm.

Many find the hasty sling good for standing and the loop for sitting/kneeling and prone, while some use the loop sling for all three positions.

If you shoot your setup and it doesn't work for the loop sling, just ask an instructor to borrow a USGI sling. Most of us bring several, as well as the appropriate sling swivels to lend out for the weekend.

Sorry for the bad pictures, they don't show the "loop" at the butt end of the sling well. From the plastic buckle beneath the checkering (2nd pic) to the rear quick disconnect is where the loop section is. I think it will still work for that... hopefully!

As long as it has some version of the center I- buckle on it (the one that kind of looks like this [|] towards the bottom of the sling....the one in the middle of the picture of the sling I posted above), then it can be used to form a proper loop long. The key in having the loop formed from here is that it snugs up when in position and stabilized the rifle completely when your body relaxes into your natural point of aim.

If it has one of those on it, you should be good to go.
