Remember the wrist pin?

Damn! I have not seen one that bad in a long time.

I can’t keep pics like that out of my head when I’m sitting in an airplane seat looking out the window at a jet engine. If that thing comes unravelled it’s going to turn me into sausage.

It's fine. The jet engine just has many times the number of parts and is designed to be as flimsy as they can get away with to save weight.

I'm used to seeing the "metal art" that blowed up racing engines become. That an impressive piece of art- so whats the cause of it all ?

Clogged oiler straved the wrist pin for oil and it moved hal way out catching it self on the bottom edge on the liner, snapping its self in half allowing the rod to move free. The rod then swung around inside free at least one full rotation blowing out both sides of the block and smashing the cam in two. The rod is pictured in the guess what this is thread just a few bellow this one.

All mechanical things have a life expectancy whether it be short or long.
If you dont make a maintenance schedule your equipment will for you

I know that’s something your dad taught you because I heard it in my dads voice.

100%, I was blessed with a good one. He took the time to teach, that doesnt mean he didnt beat my rear end and that he didnt get pissed. He was always bad about throwing tools when he got really pissed. But he only taught one way, his was, and thats how you were going to learn it.

My dad was rough, and I miss him every day. His way of telling you you were turning a wrench the wrong way was " Its tight enough."
Fundamentally, his opinion was if you were in a really comfortable position to work on something you were lazy and doing it wrong, so get off your ass.
Took me years to realize he was right.
